Welcome to Ning

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And Joseph were brought down to Egypt and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, and Egyptian bought him of the hands of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him down thither. Gen. 39:1

We see God at work here in the life of Joseph, as Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, is told by God to buy Joseph from the Ishmaelites.  Potiphar places Joseph as the slave over all his household for he saw that Joseph prospers in whatever he put his hands to do. This was unlike being a slave in American culture, for there the slave had no rights. Joseph, however, had rights and was trusted with everything Potiphar owned. This would prove to be a temptation for Joseph later, for he was a handsome young man, and Potiphar had a wife who would take a liking to Joseph. We must remember, that God does not tempt us with evil, but test us to do good. That is what Joseph will prove to do in this chapter.

  • #And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD and the LORD slew him. And Judah said unto Onan, go in unto thy brother's wife and marry her and raise up seed to thy brother. Gen. 38:6-8

Judah was in an unequally yoked marriage and did not raise his children up to fear Jehovah so Er, who was the firstborn did wickedly in the sight of Jehovah, and Jehovah slews him for his wickedness. This, in turn, left his widow, Tamar without seed or a husband, so under the Torah, the brother was to marry his brother's wife, to raise up seed for his brother,  Onan is wicked too, because he fails to raise up seed for his brother by secreting semen on the ground which was an abomination to the Lord, So this chapter is about abomination after another, as Tamar plays the harlot, and Judah goes into her not knowing.  This is why Jesus is from the tribe of Judah for He will save His people from their sins.

  • #Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver and they brought Joseph into Egypt. And Rueben returned unto the pit and behold, Joseph was not in the pit and he rent his clothes. Gen. 37:28,29

Joseph's brethren conspired to have him thrown into a pit and the Lord let the Ishmaelites find him. This was the will of God, for Joseph was to be in Egypt, as there is where God would bless him from the pit to Potiphar's house, the prison, then to the Palace. Joseph did not hate his brethren despite all that they did unto him and he is a type of Jesus as on the cross, Jesus said: Father forgive them for the know not what they do. Joseph allowed his love for his brethren to overrule any hatred.

  • #And he dreamed yet another dream and told it his brethren and said, behold, I have dreamed a dream more and behold the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he told it to his father and to his brethren and his father rebuked him and said unto him, what is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? Gen. 37:9,10

Joseph has the gift of interpreting dreams and his brethren are more jealous of him because of it, even his father rebuked him for telling the dreams. The scripture tells us that a man's gift will make room for him and Joseph has just told what he will suffer before God elevates him to Prime Minister of Egypt. So does God still give this type of dream telling to people? Well, we cannot be for certain, but Joseph and Daniel are the two in the Bible with this ability.

  • #These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children because he was the son of his old age and he made him a coat of many colors. Gen. 37:2,3

This is the drama that will go down with Joseph and his brothers because his father loved him more than any of his children and made favoritism by making him a coat of many colors. This act caused his brothers to hate him and conspire to kill him. This is a lesson to families not to show favoritism to your children. Yet God was with Joseph in every area of his life and the desire of Joseph was to give glory to God by doing what is right in the sight of the Lord most High.

  • #For their riches were more than that they might dwell together and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle. Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir; Esau is Edom. Gen. 36:7,8

Jacob and Esau could not dwell together because of much cattle, as the Lord had blessed them greatly, so Esau dwelt in mount Seir to keep the peace in the family. We can learn a lot from Esau and Jacob how they were able to overcome their differences and live at peace with one another.

  • #The way the Church treats the divorced and mentally ill is appalling As no one calls or checks on them. It is like they never existed. What a shame because God is love and if you claim to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, then you must love also. Jesus said a new commandment give I unto you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. Your status in life should not matter as to whether you will be loved. Now as Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, He said blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. May we make peace for the divorced and mentally ill in the Church is my prayer.

  • #And Esau said I have enough, my brother keep that thou hast unto thyself. And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God and thou wast pleased with me. Gen. 33:9.10

Jacob wants to show kindness to Esau after all that has past, and God blesses him to do so. This is the type of brotherly love that God the Father wants us to show one to the other. Jacob has repented of his deception and is walking in love toward his brother. This is what Jesus said a new commandment give I unto thee, that you love one another as I have loved thee. This is how when you see your brother in need, then give him what he needs.

  • #And he said, let me go, for the day breaks and he said, I will not let thee go except thou bless me. And he said unto him, what is thy name? and he said, Jacob. And he said thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men and hast prevailed. Gen. 32:26-28

Jacob has prevailed wrestling with the angel of God and now his name is Israel, for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men. May we learn from this example as we are facing situations in our lives that require us to wrestle with God. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives can we prevail in life. Thank God for the tenacity of Israel, and may it be ours is my prayer.

  • #And Laban said to Jacob, behold this heap and behold this pillar, which I have cast between me and thee; This heap be witness and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee and thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm. The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father judge between us. And Jacob swears by the fear of his father Isaac. Gen. 31:51-53

Jacob learns his valuable lesson with uncle Laban that God the Father had intended him to learn and repents of the deception he has done, yet he is not aware of what Rachel has stolen. Those images would be the reason Rachel would die in childbirth to Benjamin. What we see is that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is a just God visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third generation and having mercy on those that obey His commandments. We must keep the commandment of God too if we want the blessings of the Lord in our lives. Never cheat or deceive people, but pay a fair wage.  As the United States swears in the 45th President, our prayers are with him that he will keep the commandments of Jehovah God and the blessings will flow upon the American people.
