A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen and they had possessions therein and grew and multiplied exceedingly. And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was a hundred forty and seven years. And the time drew nigh that Israel must die and he called his son Joseph and said unto him, if now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt, But I will lie with my fathers and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burying-place. And he said I will do as thou has said. And he said, swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head. Gen 47:28-31

Israel was a hundred and forty-seven years old and knew the time of his death was soon, so he made Joseph swear that he would not be buried in Egypt. This would also be the motivation for Joseph when he was old to also make mention to carry his bones out of Egypt to Israel. There would be 430 years of slavery before this would happen, but this was the custom of the Israelis to ask this before their death. So Joseph would fulfill the promise to his father, but before Israel would die, he would have to pass the blessing to all of his children, and children's children. What a glorious tradition this would be, to bless his posterity before his death. We in America can learn a lot from this custom to bless those that are dying. Many Americans put their loved ones in nursing homes and let them spend their last days there. So shameful is this practice, that we must stop it to receive the blessing of God upon our loved ones.

  • #And the sons of Joseph, which were born to him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten. And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen and they came into the land of Goshen. And Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen and presented himself unto him and he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die since I have seen thy face, because of thou art yet alive. And Joseph said unto his brethren and unto his father's house, I will go up and show Pharaoh and say unto him, my brethren and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me; And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have. And it shall come to pass when Pharaoh shall call you and shall say, what is your occupation? That ye shall say, thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians. Gen. 46:27-34

Joseph is overjoyed to finally see his father, and the embrace of his neck for a long while was glorious. Weeping may be for the night, but joy comes in the morning. Jehovah has allowed the morning time to come to Joseph after all of his suffering in Egypt. Seventy souls of his father are now going to live in Goshen and Joseph is concerned about how Pharaoh is going to inquire about their occupation. Knowing this that most of their lives have been filled with tending to sheep, as shepherds Joseph tells them how to answer by saying their occupation is about cattle. For shepherds are an abomination unto the Egyptians. This is somewhat controversial to the Jews since they take great joy in being shepherds. Yet it appears Israel did not allow that to bother him, since he is now ready to die, now that he has seen his beloved son of Rachel, Joseph. May we learn how to be politically correct as Joseph so as not to offend Pharaoh. We are in the middle of a new administration in America and immigration has become a hot-button topic, we need to keep the peace by being politically correct. All Americans are immigrating and the true natives are the Indians. The Indians are at peace on the reservations and have learned by being politically correct to stay that way. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.

  • #So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God and He hath made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his house and a ruler throughout all of the land of Egypt. Haste ye and go up to my father and say unto him, thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not: And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children and thy children's children and thy flocks and thy herds and all thou hast: And there will I nourish thee, for yet there are five years of famine, lest thou and thy household and all that thou hast, come to poverty. And behold, your eyes see and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you. And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt and of all that, ye have seen and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither. Gen.45:8-13

How the Lord has been glorified in the life of Joseph and he is remembering the commandment to honor thy father and mother all the days of thy life and it will be well with thee. This is the prosperity gospel if we would do it, then it will be well with us. Joseph is concerned that his father not comes to poverty since there are five years left for the famine. O, if children could help their parents in time of need. My father told me when he was old and could not work, that we children should have saved more money so that we could help our parents in this time of need. My father knew that Mom was coming down with Alzheimer's decease and that it would take a lot of money for her care. My father passed away before she progressed to Alzheimer's, but we as a family sold the family home to take care of our mother so that she would not come to poverty. Thank God just as Joseph provided for his family that it went well with him and it is going well with us for keeping the commandments of God.

  • #Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all that stood by him and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. And he wept aloud and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard. And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph, doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him for they were troubled at his presence. And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now, therefore, be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. Gen. 45:1-5

Joseph is acting like Christ, for when Jesus was on the cross, He cried out Father forgive them, for they know not what they do. This is exactly what Joseph is doing by forgiving his brethren by not being bitter. Instead, he is forgiving them all the evil that they did unto him realizing that it was God who sent him ahead to preserve life. O, how families could be saved if they would respond to adversity the same way that Joseph responds. God is not the author of confusion, but He loves us with an everlasting love.

  • #And our father said, go again and buy us a little food. And we said, we cannot go down: if our youngest brother is with us, then we will go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us. And thy servant my father said unto us, ye know that my wife bare me two sons: And the one went out from me and I said surely he is torn in pieces and I saw him not since: And if ye take this also from me and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave. Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life; It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave. For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying if I bring him not unto thee, then shall I bear the blame to my father forever. Now, therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord and let the lad go up with his brethren. For how shall I go up to my father and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father. Gen. 44:25-34

Joseph hid the cup in Benjamin's bag to create this drama, and Judah is taking responsibility for Benjamin. It is interesting that Israel does not speak of the children by Leah, instead only the two boys from Rachel. Israel is partial to those two boys because he loved Rachel more than Leah. This is what caused the other boys to be jealous of Joseph and blot all of the evil. So parents let this be a  lesson not to show favoritism to your children, regardless love them all the same. So Judah is surety to his father that Benjamin will come back or he will be blamed forever. This was very touching to Joseph that Judah is showing true agape love for his family. This is the agape love that Jesus demonstrated to us, for He said no man takes my life, I lay it down willingly. Praise God for your loved ones this Valentine season and show love to your family.

  • #And he washed his face and went out and refrained himself and said, Set on bread, And they set on for him by himself and for them by themselves because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians. And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth and the men marveled one at another. And he took and sent messes unto them before him, but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank and were merry with him. Gen. 43:31-34

Joseph has gathered himself and placed his brethren in order according to their birth order. The Egyptians have left them alone since it would be an abomination for them to eat with the Hebrews. Joseph's brothers are amazed that he knew how to put them in the correct birth order. Nevertheless, they drank and made merry together, which reminds us of the celebration that will take place in the Kingdom, when the Lord Jesus will have delivered the kingdoms of this world to Israel as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Joseph has now fulfilled all that he needed to in order to reveal himself to his brethren. Never will they be separated again as God will unite the entire family. Jesus said let not your hearts be troubled, ye believe in God believe also in me, for in my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. For I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, there ye shall be also. Forever shall we be in the presence of the Savior, and never will we be separated for all eternity.

  • #And he said Peace be to you, fear not, your God and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them. And the man brought the men into Joseph's house and gave them water and they washed their feet and he gave their asses provender. And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there. And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house and bowed themselves to him to the earth. And he asked them of their welfare and said, is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive? And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads and made obeisance. And he lifted up his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son and said, is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said God be gracious unto thee, my son. And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother and he sought where to weep and he entered his chamber and wept there. Gen. 43:23-30

Joseph is at the moment he hoped for to see his brother Benjamin, and after telling his brothers; Peace be still, fear not, he is acting as Jesus did to the disciples, for when they were away, He would always greet them, Peace be still, Fear not it is I. What a meeting this is as the bowels of Joseph cannot take it anymore when he sees Benjamin, his mother's son, he has to still away to weep. It reminds us of when Jesus wept for Lazarus, as Mary and Martha thought that Jesus would keep him from dying. Jesus told them if you would believe, you would see a miracle from God. Truly, it is a miracle for Joseph to be united with all his brothers and they have a great feast, just as when the prodigal son was home to the Father. Praise God for family thank God for having someone to be concerned about your health and whereabouts. The family is God's gift to man, and to honor father and mother is the commandment with promise. Always thank God for your parents and no matter where you are, always check on them and pray for them, then it will be well with thee.

  • #And their father Israel said unto them if it must be so now, do this, take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man, a present, a little balm and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds: And take double money in your hand and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight: Take also your brother and arise, go again to the man: And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved. Gen. 43:11-14

Israel gives them good advice on what presents to bring to the man and this is how Joseph is a type of Jesus, as the Magi gave gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Joseph is in expectation to see his brothers, just as Jesus awaits the day when He will call the Church home and sing to His brethren in the great congregation in heaven. Israel is ready to accept the will of Yahweh if He will require his children, then he is ready to accept it. God the Father so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that if any would accept Him, they would not perish, but would have eternal life. John 3:16

  • #And Israel, said, wherefore dealt ye ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother? And they said, the man asked us straitly of our state and of our kindred, saying, is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down? And Judah said unto Israel his father, send the lad with me and we will arise and go; that we may live and not die, both we and our little ones. Gen.43:6-8

Judah intercedes to his father, Israel, and takes full responsibility for bringing Benjamin back. It is interesting that they did not wonder how the leader of Egypt could know so much about their family to ask all those questions. Judah is taking the role of Jesus Christ, as He interceded for us in the Garden of Gethsemani, for us by saying: not my will but thy will be done. Thank God for the faith of Judah, as Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and He will take the title deed of this world from Satan, in the book of Revelation chapter 5, because He is the Lamb that was slain before the foundations of the world. Israel is comforted by the courage of Judah and is willing to be bereaved of his children if it is the will of Yahweh. That is what we must do in our individual lives as to accept responsibility that my life is not my own, I lay it down on the altar before God, who has the right to take it. As Job said: naked came I from my mother's womb and naked shall I return, for the Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Job. 1:21

  • #But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified and ye shall not die, And they did so. And they said one to another, we are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he besought us and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, do not sin against the child and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required. And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for him spake unto them by an interpreter. And he turned himself about them and wept and returned to them again and communed with them and took from Simeon and bound him before their eyes, Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn and to restore every man's money into his sack and to give them provision for the way and thus he did for them. And they laded their asses with the corn and departed thence. Gen.42:20-26

Joseph is moved to tears as he wept at his brethren when he heard how sorrowful they were for their sins. As the scripture teaches godly sorrow leads to repentance, and these boys are now truly repentant for their sins against Joseph. So Joseph restores every man his sack and money and does not let them know he understood them since he used an interpreter. This story of Joseph is a great testimony of family reconciliation and why Joseph is a type of Jesus, for Jesus came into the world not to condemn the world, but the world could be set free from sin. Jesus gives us the ultimate reconciliation at the cross,
