A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And if thou will walk, in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. And Solomon awoke and behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD and offered up burnt offerings and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants. I Kings 3:14,15

Solomon awakes from his dream thankful for what Jehovah has said to him in the night season. He dedicates the feast to his servants and peace offerings to the Lord most high.Solomon is given the gift of long life if he keeps the statutes and the commandments as David his father. What a blessing to all of us, to keep the commandments of Jehovah.

  • #In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night and God said, ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said, thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according to as he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee and thou hast kept him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. And God said unto him, because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. I Kings 3: 5,6,9,10,11,12, 13

Jehovah God was pleased with Solomon and appeared to him in the night, and asked him what would he like me to give him. Solomon asked for an understanding heart to discern how to judge so great a people. So Jehovah gave him that plus both riches and honor. Solomon would be the wisest man to ever live and not another would come like him after him because he made such a humble request of the Lord. Promotion comes neither from the east or the west, north or south, but promotion comes from the Lord.

  • #And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, did I not make thee swear by the LORD and protested unto thee, saying, know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, the word that I have heard is good. Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the LORD and the commandment that I have charged thee with? The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head. And king Solomon shall be blessed and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD forever. So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon. I Kings 2:42-46

Solomon kept his promise to David to reward those who did evil unto him for their works. Jehovah rewarded Solomon to rule in the kingdom after David his father with a just hand. We see how that when an oath was not kept, it was a death penalty. So God is righteous in all that he does, and Benaiah was the executioner to carry out the sentence. All in the kingdom feared Solomon, for he was a man of his word and upheld the commandments of Jehovah God.

  • #So David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David. And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron and thirty-three years reigned he in Jerusalem. Then Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father and the kingdom was established greatly. I Kings 2:10-12

King David lived a great life, a man after the heart of God, and he reigned forty years in Israel. The kingdom was united when he turned it over to Solomon. Then Solomon established greatly the kingdom after David slept with his fathers. Solomon was full of wisdom and ruled wisely in the eyes of God. Then Bathsheba tells Adonijah the son of Haggith, that the kingdom was Solomon's and told him to come peaceably. He asked for Abishag the Shunammite to wife. Then Solomon was displeased and said Adonijah shall be put to death this day. Thus king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and fell upon him that he died. This was the first wise move that he made as king of Israel,

  • #That the LORD may continue His word which He spake concerning me, saying, if thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said He) a man on the throne of Israel. I Kings 2:4

King David is telling Solomon and all his children to love the Jehovah God with all their hearts and to walk in all His ways. Then there shall not fail to be a king on the throne in Israel. King David left a great legacy for Solomon, for he inherited a united kingdom in peace. Solomon did not have to go to war, as his father David did, and all he had to do was to keep the commandments, as well as the testimonies all the days of his life. Solomon has the greatest example of a man with a heart after God. No wonder Solomon prayed for wisdom, rather than riches. Jehovah God would reward him with both.

  • #Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore and show thyself a man. And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes and His commandments and His judgments and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself. I Kings 2:1-3

King David is imparting words of wisdom to Solomon his son on his death bed how he should walk before the Lord his God Jehovah all the days of his life. God would cause his kingdom to prosper as long as he keeps the commandments of Moses and his testimonies. The same is true for us today to walk in the ways of the Lord all the days of our lives and it will be well with us. Solomon would be blessed to be the wisest man to live on the earth and much of this wisdom is gained because he listened to his father and his mother. As we read the book of Proverbs, Solomon wrote a lot about not forsaking the commandments of your father and your mother. Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life Prov 4:23

  • #And Solomon said, if he will show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth, but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. So king Solomon sent and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon and Solomon said unto him, go to thine house. I Kings 1:52,53

Solomon proved to be a wise king in the way that he handled Adonijah. In the end, the throne of Solomon was exalted higher than his father's king David was. As Solomon was a man of peace and he spared the life of Adonijah by being a righteous king. God would bless king Solomon to be the wisest man to ever live and this is just the first example of how he would rule in his kingdom. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin will bring down any kingdom. May we pray for our leaders to be wise in the days ahead and that our nation will continue to stand by Israel. For God will bless all those that blesses Israel and He will curse those who curse Israel.

  • #So Zadok the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet and all the people said, God, save king Solomon. I Kings 1:38

Now that Solomon has been anointed king of Israel, he can put down what Adonijah was trying to do. All the people came up after him, and piped with pipes and rejoiced with great joy so that the earth rent with the sound of them. God is showing His approval of Solomon as king.

  • #And king David said, call me Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king. The king said unto them, take with you the servants of your lord and cause Solomon, my son, to ride upon mine own mule and bring him down to Gihon: And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there, king over Israel and blow ye with the trumpet and say, God, save king Solomon. I Kings1:32-34

King David is faithful to his word to Bathsheba and has Solomon anointed king of Israel. The goodness of the Lord can be seen in the life of Solomon and he is blessed for having such a godly father, king David, and mother, Bathsheba. Train up a child, the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart.

  • #Then king David answered and said, call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence and stood before the king. And the king swore and said, as the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress, Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day. Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and did reverence to the king and said, let my lord king David live forever. I Kings 1:28-31

King David assures Bathsheba that Solomon shall reign after him. And queen Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, which was a sign of respect for the king and said to the king to live forever, which was the greatest word to say to the king. Abishag has done a great job of nursing king David back to health and he is no longer cold. He can think correctly as well as rule the kingdom well in his final days.
