Welcome to Ning

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, so let the gods do to me, and more also if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time. I Kings 19:1,2

We see here Ahab being a cry baby going to his wife queen Jezebel to complain about Elijah, What a sad day that Elijah gets scared at her words and went to Beersheba, and left his servant behind. Clearly, Elijah has hit a valley experience after being on the mountaintop with God when he defeated the prophets of Baal. Elijah has a case of clinical depression and is in need of food, as well as rest to cope with life. The fact that ministers get burnt out in the ministry doing the work of the Lord is a real thing, yet the Church does not know how to address it properly. I saw this happen to my father, and then myself. I was willing to get professional help, but I was severely criticized by my father. We should not be ashamed to seek professional help for a severe mental illness. I was placed in a hospital and given the food as well as medication that I needed to get better. My father told me about his panic attacks, but he never sought out professional help. We have to remove the schism of going to see a shrink for a psychological condition in the ministry. I hope this chapter will open the eyes of those suffering from this condition to seek help and not be ashamed to do so. God sent an angel to cure Elijah. Doctors can be angels in the medical field to help control these illnesses. There are two prophets in the Bible who got depressed and sat down by a tree and wished to die. Jonah and Elijah. It is clear that clinical depression in ministry is a real thing and must be dealt with properly. We know what God did here for Elijah, but scripture does not tell us what happened to Jonah. My prayer is for ministers to seek help and not be ashamed to admit that they may be suffering from a mental illness. Better to get help than to burn-out in the ministry.

  • #And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and the wind and there was great rain. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel. And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. I Kings 18:45,46

Jehovah God's hand was mighty upon Elijah and he is on the mountaintop. How glorious it is to be on the mountaintop with God, yet it is in these moments that we have to beware of the valley experiences that are around the corner.  Every mountaintop experience means the valley experience is coming, and so it would be with Elijah. Oh that man would praise the Lord for He is good, and His mercy endures forever. Oh that you would pray to God to give you the strength to walk from the mountaintop to the valley below in the strength of Jehovah. For only then can we be victorious. It was for the seventh time with Elijah's face between his knees that the Lord sent the rain. For seven is the number of completeness, and God has completely given Elijah the victory.

  • #And Elijah said unto Ahab, get thee up. eat and drink, for there is the sound of abundance of rain. I Kings 18:41

Jehovah God has used Elijah to show a mighty move of God in the land of Israel, in which there had been Baal worship. Now God wants Ahab to thank Him for sending the abundance of rain, by eating and drinking that abundance. We need to give thanks to God every day for the abundance that comes when we prioritize prayer in our lives and give God the glory for what He is doing. Rain is a blessing and we see how many things are affected when rain does not come, and now that the people have repented of their sin, now the abundance of rain can come with many blessings. Elijah is a man of prayer and God used his prayer to hold back the rain for three and a half years. Now God is using Elijah's prayer to send abundant rain. Take time to be prayerful and thankful in your life for what God is doing by sending rain in your life. Let the abundance of rain bless you to eat, drink and be thankful in your life by giving God all the glory that He alone deserves. It may be that you were once living in sin, and now you have repented of the Baal worship in your life, and now God wants to send the abundance of rain. Let it rain showers of blessing in your life, as well as the lives of others that God is going to use you to bless. It is my prayer that you will walk in obedience to the will of God in your life every day by sanctifying the Lord God in your heart giving Him the glory that He alone is worthy of leaving the Baal worship behind, following the commandments of God daily. Do this and you will be blessed just as the Lord blessed the people of God in the days of Elijah.

  • #And  Elijah said unto them, take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slew them there. I Kings 18:40

Jehovah God He is Lord and the people are convinced now, so Elijah orders them to bring all the prophets of Baal to the brook Kishon where he slew every one of them. What a mighty God we serve, and there is no God but Jehovah. Let all the people praise Him.

  • #Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice and the wood, and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and they said, the LORD, He is the God; the LORD, He is the God. I Kings 18:38,39

Jehovah God has just answered the prayer of Elijah in a mighty way to demonstrate that He is the true God in all of Israel and that Elijah is His servant. The people fell on their faces repented of their sins and turned to the living God. What a great move of God, how we need to see the Lord move today among His people. If we would have the faith of Elijah, then God would answer our prayer for revival too. Oh that the people of God will turn from their sins and declare that the Lord He is God and forsake Baal. It is my prayer that ministers will preach the uncompromising Word of God so that the people of God will hear and believe.

  • #And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel and that I am thy servant and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that these people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their hearts back again. I Kings 18:36,37

Elijah is bearing his heart in prayer to Jehovah God to hear him, so the people of Israel will know that Jehovah is the true and the living God in Israel. As well as that he is the servant of the highest God. Elijah is a man like us who cries out to God at the time of the evening sacrifice and he will be heard because of his child-like faith.

  • #And he put the wood in order and cut the bullock in pieces and laid him on the wood and said, fill four barrels with water and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood. And he said to do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said to do it a third time. And they did it the third time. And the water ran about the altar and he filled the trench also with water. I Kings 18:33-35

Elijah is water proofing the altar so there will be no doubt that Jehovah God is the God who answers by fire. What an amazing sight this must have been. Praise God that we serve the God who answers by fire and is all together wonderful. Next time you find yourself in a situtation where you need God to answer, then walk by faith as Elijah did.

  • #And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. I Kings 18:32

Elijah is giving all the glory to Jehovah God by making the trench for the altar so that the fire of God can swoop in upon all the two measures of seed, so the children of Israel will know who the true living God is. Elijah is walking by faith because he knows the Lord will honor his faith in the word of God. We too must live a life of faith if we are going to please God.

  • #And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying Israel shall be thy name: I Kings 18:31

Elijah repairs the altar with twelve stones after the names of Jacob sons, and this is the beginning for Jehovah God to restore Israel into proper relation.

  • #And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD, that was broken down. I Kings 18:30

After the prophets of Baal have made a complete fool of themselves, then Elijah calls the people to come near unto him so that he can repair the altar that was broken down. When people forsake the Lord God Jehovah, then the altar in their life is broken down and only Jehovah God can repair it. As we celebrate Father's Day today I want to challenge fathers to repair the relationships between their children that has been broken down. Honor thy father and thy mother all the days of thy life and it will be well with thee, is the promise of the fifth commandment. Too many children are not in the right relationships because the altar has been torn down in their heart. Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Forgive your earthly father, and come to your Heavenly Father, who will make all things new in your life. Let Him repair the altar in your heart that was broken down.
