Welcome to Ning

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said, (the number of names together were about a hundred and twenty,) Acts 1:15

Peter stood up in those days and the manuscripts reported there were about 120 names in the upper room waiting on the promise of the Father, the Holy Ghost, and Jesus in John 21 restored Peter from his failures of denying the Lord. I Cor. 15:6 reported there were about 500 that had witnessed the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom some were asleep and these were the many infallible proofs of the risen Lord, therefore, Peter was now bold to stand up in those days. We too must stand up as witnesses of these things, for because He lives we live also and have the Holy Spirit to seal us in the body of Christ until the day of our redemption.

  • #These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brethren. Acts 1:14

The 120 in the upper room continued with one accord in prayer and supplication. Mary,  the mother of Jesus was prominent among the women that were there as well as the brothers of Jesus. They were insisting that Mary remained a virgin after the birth of the Lord Jesus, which is debunked by this verse as Joseph and Mary were intimately involved and Jesus had half brothers. Thank God for the prayers of Mary for she was at the cross beholding her Son, the Lord Jesus, and Jesus told John to behold your mother. Children are to honor their parents all the days of their lives. We do not hear of Joseph being in the upper room so it could be he was there and just not mentioned. We do not have to obey our parents once we move out of the house but we must honor and respect their opinions.

  • #And when they were come in they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Mathew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. Acts 1:13

All of these disciples except Judas Iscariot were gathered into the upper room to pray for the promise of the Holy Spirit. Paul replaces Judas Iscariot, who committed suicide for betraying the Lord which looks like he suffered from mental illness. Mental illness has been a problem with mankind since the fall of Adam and we today have medication that one can take that mitigates the suffering of those with mental illness.

  • #Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. Acts. 1:12

This is a distance less than a mile that the Jews would journey on a sabbath day and this is the distance the Mount of Olives is from Jerusalem. So the disciples are following what the Lord told them in the Olivet discourse that they were to be witnesses for him, yet many would be offended and this would turn out to be a testimony for them. Well, praise the Lord that we have received the promise of the Father and we look forward to the blessed hope of the Church, the glorious appearing of the Lord in the Rapture of the Church. The world is all abuzz about the success of the commercialization of space but we as Christians look forward to our glorified bodies that will not need a spaceship to take us to heaven. Doctor Luke is doing a great job of focusing on our heavenly bodies and not our terrestrial bodies that are subject to gravity. May the Lord come quickly to take us away to our heavenly home is my prayer.

  • #And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven. Acts 1:10,11

There were two angels dressed in white apparel who comforted the disciples as Jesus was caught up in the clouds and taken to heaven. Thank God the same Jesus will so come for us in like manner so we can rest assured at the passing of our loved ones that whether we wake or sleep we will be caught up in the clouds to forever be with the Lord. Man is trying to get to heaven with space ships, as today Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos will be going up into space with three other members. We pray for their safety and that they will marvel at how Jesus was caught up into space with His glorified body. We too will have a body just like His that will not need a spaceship to get us there.

  • #And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Acts 1:9

We see the ascension of the Lord Jesus into the heavens and this is a glorious sign of what will happen when He returns in the clouds for the Rapture of the Church. We too will experience being caught up in the clouds to forever be with the Lord. The disciples are sad to see Him leave them but they remembered the command to tarry ye in Jerusalem till ye shall be indwelt with power from on high, after that the promise of the Holy Ghost will be given to them. We too are waiting for the promise of the second Advent of Christ for the Church. The Second Advent shall be in two phases with the Rapture of the Church first, then seven years of tribulation with the Lord descending in the clouds on white horses with the saints. Then the kingdom of God will be restored to Israel.

  • #But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. Acts 1:8

The Greek word for power is dunomus, which we get the English word dynamite. So we will receive that dynamite power to proclaim the gospel all over Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world when the Holy Ghost is indwelling us. This is the power that we receive by placing our faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that you will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved, and thine house. We have computers connected to the Internet that allows us to spread the gospel all over the uttermost parts of the world now in fulfillment of the Great Commission. I thank God Facebook is connecting the world so that we can share the good news of our Savior. So get busy and start working in the vineyard before night comes and no man can work.

  • #And He said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His power. Acts 1:7

The Father has placed the times of events concerning the kingdom in His own power, so Jesus tells the disciples not to be consumed by them. Our duty is to keep the commandments and preach the good news of the coming kingdom. This applies to our age of grace as God is not sending His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him can be saved from the wrath to come. For God shall bring every work into judgment and the secret things will be brought to light. For evil men will wax worse and worse deceiving others while being deceived themselves.

  • #When they, therefore, were come together, they asked of Him saying Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? Acts 1:6

The disciples asked the Lord Jesus a serious question concerning the kingdom being restored to Israel and we will see the Lord will respond emphatically. They should be more concerned with staying in Jerusalem to receive the promise of the Father which is the Holy Ghost and just wait until they have the power to live the Christian life. Jesus wants us to be a witness for Him and this is what the disciples will learn. We are learning this in the information age as knowledge allows the gospel to be disseminated all over the world. So we too must be about our Father's business spreading the good news that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and the third day rose again for our justification.

  • #For John truly baptized with water but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Acts 1:5

The Book of Acts was written by Dr. Luke, the only one of the apostles who was a medical doctor. This book consists of a praxis of events concerning the acts of the apostles and mostly Peter and Paul. We see Jesus after His passion was speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God with many infallible proofs. Now He commanded the apostles to remain in Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit. In the Greek Paracleotos meaning the indwelling comforter who would baptize us with the knowledge of Jesus. We look back at Pentecost now that it has already come, and anyone who has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior receives the Holy Spirit. John baptized with water which is an outward showing that we have accepted Jesus in our hearts, and when we are baptized by the Holy Spirit we are sealed into the body of Christ. We will learn plenty about the acts of the apostles. To be an apostle you have to have seen Jesus you cannot say that you are an apostle today because Jesus only presented Himself to the twelve apostles. Paul was the last that Jesus appeared to on the Damascus road in Syria.
