A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire and it sat upon each of them. Acts 2:3

Jer. 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? This is what happened as the Holy Spirit filled everyone with cloven tongues like fire and they understood each person in their own dialect. This was the sign that the Holy Spirit had come for He takes the things of Christ and makes them plane to us. This fire of the Holy Spirit burns in us and makes us want to testify about the goodness of God in the land of the living. No one needed an interpreter for the Holy Spirit to give them the interpretation.

  • #And when the day of Pentecost has fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Acts 2:1,2

Pentecost means fifty, and it had been fifty days since the Lord Jesus Christ had risen from the grave then ascended into heaven. As the Father had promised He sent the Holy Spirit as a sound of a mighty rushing wind, while they were all 120 of them, in the upper room. This is the beginning of the Church Age upon the earth and now every believer who places their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ receives the Holy Spirit in their heart. Now we have the power to be witnesses for the Lord in Jerusalem and all the uttermost parts of the world. I thank God for this power indwelling all believers and we now have the boldness to turn the world upside down for Jesus Christ.

  • #And they gave forth their lots and the lot fell upon Matthias and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Acts 1:26

Should Christians play the lottery? Well, from this passage in the Bible we see the lottery was used to see which one the Lord would choose to replace Judas Iscariot and so Justus and Matthias were selected. In the Old Testament, the men on the ship where Jonah was sailing to Tarshish when the storm came they cast lots and the lot fell upon Jonah. Perhaps this is where the Apostles believed God would allow the lot to fall on the one He had chosen. So the lot indeed falls upon Matthias and he is the one chosen by the apostles to replace Judas Iscariot. There have been members of churches to win the lottery and they tithe ten percent to the Church. I do not believe God forbids us from playing the lottery, which is a form of gambling since God ultimately determines who the lot will fall upon. We should not spend a lot of money playing the lottery and PCH allows you to play for free, so I do enjoy playing for fun. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind and if you believe that playing the lottery is wrong, then do not impose your beliefs on others. We will all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to give an accounting of our works before God. There we will find all the answers to these perplexing questions.

  • #For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate and let no man dwell therein and his bishopric let another take. Acts 1:20

Psalm 109:8 Let his days be few and let another take his office. This is the verse that Dr. Luke is referring to in this passage about Judas Iscariot. Indeed ultimately his office was taken by the Apostle Paul, even though the disciples used a lottery to choose Mathias but we do not read anywhere in the Bible what Mathias did for the Lord. Paul is responsible for writing over 13 books of the Bible and many assert Hebrews was written by him also. He that desires the office of a Bishop desires a good thing. Let those that run the House of God, rule their own houses well and this is one thing that qualifies one for the office of Bishop.

  • #And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, the field of blood. Acts 1:19

Dr. Luke is interpreting the Hebrew language so that all the people dwelling in Jerusalem knew that the field that Judas Iscariot iniquity purchased Aceldama is called the field of blood. This was the reward of his sin for betraying the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May we never sell out our souls for money. I Tim. 6:10 for the love of money is the root of all evil. Today, people will sell their morals to get rich and the bible tells us if riches increase, then we must not set our eyes upon them. Riches take on wings like eagles and fly away. Let those who are rich be willing to give to those in need and not greed.

  • #Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity and falling head long, he burst in the midst and all his bowels gushed out. Acts 1:18

This is a very grotest scripture which tells us Judas Iscariot purchased a field with the thirty pieces of silver, even though he returned the money as an act of contrition, but the elders used the money for that purchase. The question is did Judas Iscariot repent of what he did? the answer is no he was sorry but he committed the unpardenable sin in blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. He will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire for what he did and unlike Peter who was restored by the Lord for denying Him three times Judas had his opportunity to repent when Jesus said to him wherefore comest thou friend in the Garden of Gethsemany? This is a warning to all of us to seek the Lord while He may be found, for there is coming a day when He may not be found.

  • #For he was numbered with us and had obtained part of this ministry. Acts 1:17

Peter is talking about Judas Iscariot as John 6:70 Jesus said have I not chosen you twelve? and one of you is a devil? At that time the disciples did not think that of Judas Iscariot, for he was in charge of the money bag but he would prove to be the devil when he sold the Lord Jesus Christ for thirty pieces of silver. This was the price of a slave so you say how do we judge people, so as to not pick a devil? Jesus said the only thing that could have saved Judas Iscariot was for his mother to miscarry. Judas Iscariot was picked by the Lord to fulfill scripture. Jesus said we shall know them by their fruits. So we are called to be fruit inspectors. How can they hear except they have a preacher? How shall he preach except the Lord sends him? My dad said some were sent, and some just went. The one who is sent by God is Spirit-filled and will speak thus says the Lord.

  • #Men and brethren, this scripture must need have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was the guide to them that took Jesus. Acts 1:16

Peter is referring to Psalm 41:9 Yea mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. This is the Holy Spirit using David to foretell what Judas Iscariot would do to the Lord Jesus Christ by eating the bread of the Lord's Supper, then betraying Him for thirty pieces of silver. David in Psalm 55:13 spoke of a friend who went to the house of God, his equal and we can recall being betrayed by false friends who gossip about us leading to the loss of a spouse. Paul had many trials among false brethren in II Cor. 11 and we must beware of those who befriend us, only to betray us for monetary gain. I spent almost a month in a mental hospital being given psychotropic drugs causing me to hallucinate saying things about my wife that were not true and then they told my wife and she separated from me. This is just an anatomy of false friends who speak kind words in your face while telling lies behind your back. Love believes all things, bears all things, and rejoices in the truth. Jesus told all the disciples one of you will betray me, and all the disciples said Lord is it I? Then Jesus said he that eats bread with me and none of the disciples knew it was Judas Iscariot He was talking about until it happened. We must be careful who we trust as the scripture tells us not to put our confidence in men whose breath is in their nostrils.

  • #And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said, (the number of names together were about a hundred and twenty,) Acts 1:15

Peter stood up in those days and the manuscripts reported there were about 120 names in the upper room waiting on the promise of the Father, the Holy Ghost, and Jesus in John 21 restored Peter from his failures of denying the Lord. I Cor. 15:6 reported there were about 500 that had witnessed the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom some were asleep and these were the many infallible proofs of the risen Lord, therefore, Peter was now bold to stand up in those days. We too must stand up as witnesses of these things, for because He lives we live also and have the Holy Spirit to seal us in the body of Christ until the day of our redemption.

  • #These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brethren. Acts 1:14

The 120 in the upper room continued with one accord in prayer and supplication. Mary,  the mother of Jesus was prominent among the women that were there as well as the brothers of Jesus. They were insisting that Mary remained a virgin after the birth of the Lord Jesus, which is debunked by this verse as Joseph and Mary were intimately involved and Jesus had half brothers. Thank God for the prayers of Mary for she was at the cross beholding her Son, the Lord Jesus, and Jesus told John to behold your mother. Children are to honor their parents all the days of their lives. We do not hear of Joseph being in the upper room so it could be he was there and just not mentioned. We do not have to obey our parents once we move out of the house but we must honor and respect their opinions.
