A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep and fell down from the third loft and was taken up dead. Acts 20:8,9

It is a dangerous thing to fall asleep on a sermon, as Eutychus had many lights around him in the upper chamber, but he fell from the third loft. Today if you fall asleep during the sermon the preacher can call out your name as my father did when he was preaching. The devil does not want you to hear the gospel, so make sure you are rested when you go to church because there are no apostles to raise the dead as Paul did for Eutychus. I thank the Lord for this passage in the Bible as it tells us to be vigilant for our adversary the devil goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Arm yourselves with the Word of God so that you can resist the devil with all of his schemes. I thank you Lord for your nail-pierced hands for worthy is the Lamb seated on the throne for He is high and lifted up so worship Him today and let His praises be upon your lips.

  • #And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow and continued his speech until midnight. Acts 20:7

How the Church needs to get back to consistently taking the Lord's Supper on the first day of the week in honor of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Paul is giving his farewell sermon to the Ephesians and they loved him dearly so they were listening intently. Paul is a long-winded preacher and the Holy Spirit is speaking through him in a mighty way. We must not be afraid to take the elements in this pandemic as Jesus gave thanks when He shared the Last Supper with the disciples. Let us break bread together and give thanks to the Lord for saving us in this pandemic and showing the world that Jesus is alive and because He lives we shall live also. We must examine ourselves to make sure we are in the faith and love one another as the Lord has commanded us to.

  • #And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. Acts 20:6

Paul is with St Luke now and they set sail from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread and came unto them in Troas; the winds must have been very turbulent and they abode seven days. Seven in the Bible is the number of completion as God is using Paul to complete the work of taking the gospel to the Gentiles, as the brethren gave him the support that he needed at Philippi. This is where he said my God shall supply all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. May the Lord provide for us as inflation is out of control with the war in Ukraine and we pray that the Social Security Cola will be increased to reconcile the true cost of inflation. We also pray that Congress can do the right thing to pass an assault weapons ban as a result of the mass shooting at the Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. It is time for Congressmen to get off the fence with the Gun Lobby and do the right thing to protect our children and children's children.

  • #And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus, and Secundus and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. Acts 20:4

Our hearts are broken as the death toll in the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas Elementary School is now nineteen children and two teachers for a total of 21. Our prayers go out to the families of the fallen that they will find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We are not too sorrowful as those who have no hope as Paul taught the Thessalonians. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout of the Arcangel and the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ shall be raised first then those who are alive and remain shall be changed in a moment and caught up in the clouds, so shall we ever be with the Lord. Let us comfort ourselves with these words of comfort in the Lord Jesus. Just as all these going before tarried for us in Troas. let us tarry in our homes rejoicing in the Lord.

  • #And when he had gone over those parts and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. Acts 20:2,3

Our hearts are broken over the deaths of the eighteen children and the school teacher at the tragic mass shooting in the Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. We praise God that the police were able to kill the eighteen-year-old teenager who had done the mass killing. We will see them again, for they are in heaven with the Lord and will be in the first resurrection when the Lord comes again. This is what Paul was doing by exhorting the disciples after the Lord had delivered them from the crowd that was trying to kill them. We must not question why God allows bad things to happen to good people, but remember that the Bible tells us that He has put eternity in our hearts and makes all things beautiful in His time. As the great hymn of the church goes " We will understand it better Bye and Bye" Yes Jesus will come again and there will be a great reunion in the sky when we all see Jesus, and what a glorious day that will be. So keep the families of the departed in your prayers so that they can move on in life without survivor's guilt.

  • #And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia. Acts 20:1

So Demetrius gained nothing after the uproar, and Paul calls the disciples unto him and embraced them. What a blessing it is to have Christian brothers and sisters to embrace in the ministry. The Bible tells us a friend loves at all times and Paul is a true friend of all the disciples who loves them with the love of God. Now Paul prepares for his departure to Macedonia. Paul will give an Affectionate warning of what will happen after his departure, that grievous wolves will come in among the flock to devour you. Then he gives his tearful farewell in Acts 19:21 and it was his purpose to remain until Pentecost I Cor.16:8, then having exhorted the disciples he departed. It is my prayer that the Church will come together as we celebrate the soon coming of the Lord by provoking one another to love and good works as we see the Day of Christ approaching.

  • #But if ye enquire anything concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly. For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse. And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly. Acts 19:39-41

The jurisprudence system was in favor of Paul seeing that he was a Roman citizen which could not accuse a citizen without all the facts in the judicial branch for religious and political affairs. I thank God that we have these same rights in America and the First Amendment to the Constitution gives us the authority to preach the gospel without fear of retaliation based on our religious freedom. We see the providential hand of God moving in the affairs of man to advance the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God.

  • #And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting forward. And Alexander beckoned with his hand and would have made his defense unto the people. But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours, crying out Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Acts 19:33,34

This Alexander was a prominent Jew that they drew out of the multitude. They did this to nullify what Paul had said, therefore trying to make the word of God void. But when the Ephesians found out Alexander was a Jew, they wished to blame the Christians, but the Gentile aversion to the Jews was so great, therefore it was difficult for him to have a hearing. So the people cry out Great is Diana of the Ephesians. And when the town-clerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter? Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet; and to do nothing rashly. It was a common superstition that some hideous image that was worshipped in a heathen temple fell from heaven which was a deception of the priests. The Palladium of Troy, the Diana of Tauris, and the Pallas of Athena were all said to have fallen. So God uses their superstition to confuse them. For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess. Wherefore, if Demetrius and the craftsmen which are with him; have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another. I praise God for what a mighty God we serve who turns our tragedies into triumphs for His glory.

  • #And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre. Acts 19:30,31

It is very important to have friends in high places and this is what Paul has. As the disciples knew the intent of the people was to harm him, so they suffered him not to go into the people. So a certain of the chief of Asia, these men were called Asiarchs and were ten in number, who were friends of Paul. These men officiated these games and festivals. There were many times in Paul's ministry that great Roman officials would treat him not only with respect but sympathy also. So they would not suffer Paul to go into the theatre because some cried one thing and some another: for the assembly was confused and the more part knew not wherefore they have come together. We see the providential hand of God using these officials who were good friends to save his life. God is not the author of confusion and the people were confused and Satanically inspired. I thank God that He has the right people in our lives at the right time to deliver us from danger. This has happened in my life also, as I look back at the miraculous deliverance of the Lord. Truly Romans 8:28 God is working all things together for our good and according to His purposes for those that love the Lord. So if you find yourself perplexed just pray Lord to make a way for me when there seems to be no way and He will answer your prayer.

  • #And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Acts 19:28

The bible tells us that God causes the wrath of men to praise Him and it is such that after Paul had spoken, all the people of Ephesus that were worshipping Diana, were full of wrath crying out saying Great is Diana. God is a jealous God and Paul has just warned the people that there are no gods made with men's hands. So the whole world city was filled with confusion and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. We see here that God is not the author of confusion, but Satan is. This crowd is mad and wants Paul so they can be thrown to the wild beasts, dragging with them also. Nevertheless, the disciples when they heard about it would not suffer Paul to go into the theatre. This is where Paul talked about the dangers he faced in II Cor. 11 and how he had suffered great trials among his countrymen. Thank the Lord that He knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and so He did for Paul and his companions in travel. We can learn much from this passage of the scriptures about how we must trust God to deliver us when we are faithful to His word. It is my prayer that all our brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world will be delivered from all these trials.
