A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice and there to winter; which is a haven to Crete and lieth toward the southwest and northwest. Acts 27:12

The Greek word for commodious is Aneuthetos which means not well placed, i.e. Inconvenient or not fit. So it was that Paul and his companions were looking for a place to rest for the winter but they could not find it so they set sail for Phenice in hopes to winter there, which was a haven to Crete that lieth toward the southwest and northwest. Europe is about to experience the most expensive winter yet with Russian gas being cut off and sanctions being applied to Russia for the war on Ukraine. We must pray that God will open a door so that they can get gas to supply their needs. For our God shall supply all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

  • #Now when much time was spent and when sailing was now dangerous because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished Acts 27:9

The Greek word for fast is Nesteuo i.e. abstinence from food and for a voluntary religious exercise prescribed by the Mosaic Law Leviticus 16:29 Such people as Hippocrates, Aristotle, Philo, Josephus, Plutarch, and others observed these fasts. I do intermittent fasting for eating food within 10 hours to control my diabetes. So fasting is good for us, not only spiritually, but physically as well. And so Paul said unto them Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship. but also of our lives. Paul is an apostle and has received a warning from God and that is why he has said this. God often warns us of impending danger in dreams and visions. We had better take warning from God of the times that we are living in now for perilous times have come and men have become lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. They have a form of godliness but deny the power, from such turn away. Nevertheless, the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul. Take heed that no man deceives you for many false prophets have come and will say do not believe the Bible as the absolute Word of God. This is where we are today as many do not believe in the Verbal Plenary Inspirations of the scriptures which teaches that the Bible is without errors and inspired by God. And we must believe the Bible if we are going to be saved in these last days. For the Day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night. So be ye also ready for in such a time as ye think not the Son of Man will come.

  • #And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea. Acts 27:8

The Greek word for the fair is Kalos which means beautiful, good, honest, and well-worthy. It was applied by the Greeks to everything so distinguished in form as to be pleasing; hence beautiful to look at. Thus this was The fair havens which was a port of Crete, close to Lasea, which was one of the 90 or 100 or so cities of Crete. So Paul and his companions are enjoying the sail until tempestuous winds come upon the ship. We are in the midst of those same tempestuous winds in the world today with the war in Ukraine and Russia raging on and Putin threatening the world with tactical Nuclear weapons. President Biden has warned if he uses them we will be facing Armageddon. So we need to pray to the Lord Jesus who has the whole world in His hands that this scenario does not come to pass. Jesus warned in the Mount Olivet Discourse that in the Tribulations except for those days being shortened there would be no flesh saved, but for the Elect's sake, they will be shortened. It is high time for us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem for it is the city of the great King of kings and Lord of lords. For Jesus will roar upon the mountain in Olives to save His elect from total annihilation. Jesus is the Prince of Peace and He shall come at just the right time to usher in the Kingdom of God. So let us look up, for our redemption draws nigh.

  • #And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy and he put us therein. Acts 27:6

The Greek word for Alexandria is Alexandrinos which means belonging to Alexandrine or belonging to Alexandria. So it was that the centurion found that ship belonging to Alexandria sailing into Italy and put Paul and his companions on it. And when we had sailed slowly many days and scarce have come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete over against Salmone. Paul had quite a testimony about this missionary journey in II Cor. 11 of the things that he suffered. All those who live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. So arm yourselves with the same mindset knowing that it is appointed for us not only to believe in the Lord Jesus but to suffer for Him. Now no suffering of the present time is joyous but grievous, nevertheless, it yields the peaceable fruits of righteousness to those exercised thereby. Therefore my brethren count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations knowing that the trying of your faith produces patience. Let patience be complete so that you will be lacking in nothing.

  • #And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia. Acts 27:5

The Myra was of uncertain derivation and a place in Asia Minor, a city of Lycia a maritime region between Caria and Pamphylia. Paul is walking in the will of God and we can find ourselves in turbulence walking in the will of God. We wonder why so many with mental illness find themselves in turbulence living the Christian life. Paranoia causes the mind to think that other people are out to get us and voices try to drown out the voice of God. Always remember that standing in the shadows is God watching for His own, as we are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ the Lord. Don't let your mental illness diagnosis be a stigma to you but show others that I can do all things through Him that gives me strength. Pray for all the people who have lost their homes and livelihood in hurricane Ian give your time, talents, and treasures to God for His glory. Truly God will give us the strength to make it in these days of climate change with the increase in storms, droughts, and famine. King David said I have been young and old, and not once have I seen the righteous forsaken or his seed begging bread.

  • #And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. Acts 27:4

The Greek word for thence is Kakeithen the meaning is likewise from that place and afterward. So it is that Paul set sail for Cyprus because the winds were contrary. The Greek word for the contrary is Enantios which means opposite, hostile, and opposed. Cyprus was of uncertain origin, an island in the Mediterranean. Lying between Cilicia and Syria. Thus Paul had a premonition from God that the winds were going to destroy the ship. We must always obey the premonitions that God gives us about certain people and situations that we find ourselves in. For God knows all things cause He is omniscient.  and we must walk by faith and not by sight to please God. Thus Paul is demonstrating that he will warn Julius of the dangers ahead. I have had many premonitions about many things, and investments that I should not make, and when I did not obey those warnings I suffered a loss.  This text is teaching us that God causes all things to work together for our good and His glory. So despite the dangers ahead, Paul and his companions will be saved by the grace of God in just the right time.

  • #And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself. Acts 27:3

Sidon was a maritime city of Phoenicia of Hebrew origin (Tsiydown) a place in Palestine. In Aramaic also to fish; hence properly taking its name from its abundance of fish. Sidon was a very ancient Phoenician city formerly distinguished for wealth and traffic, situated near the Mediterranean on the borders of Judaea; it had been assigned to the tribe of Asher Joshua 19:28, So Julius was courteous to Paul and could see that he needed to refresh himself with his Christian brothers. As iron sharpens iron Paul is able to be mentored on this journey. Thus he was entreated by Julius. We do not know if Julius was a Christian but he is showing signs of being saved by showing this courtesy to Paul. The scripture tells us to do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith. Perhaps they took time out to do some fishing and fellowship with one another in the faith. What a blessing when brothers dwell together in unity and that is what was happening on this missionary journey.

  • #And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. Acts 27:2

The Greek word for Adramyttium is Adramyttenos was a seaport of Mysia, a place in Asia Minor. So Paul launched to sail by the coasts of Asia, with one Aristarchus, who was a Macedonian of Thessalonica. He was the best leader of the Christian church in Thessalonica and a fellow captive of Paul Colossians 4:10 Philemon 1:24, an inhabitant of Macedonian 2 Cor. 9:2,4 So we see the Lord is working providentially with Paul by allowing him to be on this ship with Aristarchus to preach the gospel to the prisoners on the ship and the sailors. God always has us at the right place at the right time to spread the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Today we are facing turbulent times in our churches, and marriages. As apostasy is prevalent in the church and many are falling away from the faith giving heed to doctrines of demons and forbidding them to marry. Polyamory is practiced when couples are swapping partners and having open marriages. This is evident as this is why the institution of marriage is under assault. We have to stand on the doctrines of Christ and let the world know that a true marriage is between a man and a woman. The scripture says let every man have his own wife and every woman her own husband. This was to prevent promiscuity from being practiced in the land as it is today. So we have to be ready to be persecuted for our faith and even ostracized by families. Jesus said just before His second coming they would be as they were in the days of Noah, as they were marrying and giving in marriage. This is just what is happening today and it tells us that we must be witness to the truth of the gospel that sets men free from their bondage.

  • #And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band. Acts 27:1

The Greek word for centurion is Hekatontarches which is a captain of one hundred men. So Agrippa and Festus determined that they should send Paul and certain other prisoners to sail into Italy, with one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band. This is going to set up another epic battle for Paul on the old ship of Zion. Fear not for God will help us and strengthen us where ever He sends us and if God is for us who can be against us? Even Julius with his hundred men cannot thwart the plan of God for His children. Our prayers go out to all the people of Florida who lost almost everything in hurricane Ian in the gulf of Mexico. Jesus warned us before the coming of the Day of the Lord there would be signs in the sun, moon, and stars with the sea roaring and upon the earth distress of nations with perplexities. Climate change is causing hurricanes to be more ferocious. Jesus told us when we see these things to look up for our redemption draweth nigh. For it would be as the birth pains of a woman in travail. I know that when a woman is about to give birth her labor pains come within every five minutes. The rapidity of the birth pains on earth, tells us that we are in the beginnings of sorrow just before the coming of the Lord. So my brothers and sisters set your affections on things above and hold unto God's unchanging hand for He will see us through all of these trials and tribulations.

  • #And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up and the governor and Bernice and they that sat with them: Acts 26:30

The Greek word for spoken is Epo which means to answer or bid a command. Thus Paul has answered the questions about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ for which he is in bond for sentenced to death. Then king Agrippa rose up and the governor and Bernice all sat with them. Contemplating what to do with this innocent man. And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or bonds. Then said Agrippa unto Festus, this man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar. The Greek word for the phrase set at liberty is Apolyo which means to set free or release. Figuratively it means to forgive, dismiss, or divorce. I am not at liberty to marry another woman until my estranged wife will grant me a divorce. So I understand what Paul is going through hoping to be set at liberty to serve the Lord without bonds. Paul talked about divorce in I Cor 7 and he said if the unbelieving spouse departs, or leaves the marriage, then the believer is no longer bound to the marriage as this is biblical grounds for divorce. The law calls this abandonment which the law says is done when a spouse leaves the other spouse for a year or greater. The Lord wants us to live in peace with one another and for the children to be sanctified. I have waited over six years now and my spouse refuses to reconcile to the marriage or grant me the divorce that I lawfully deserve. So who should I appeal to? Paul was in this same dilemma and he chose to appeal to Caesar. I can appeal to the family courts and seek to file divorce on my own now that I have been abandoned. I am praying to the Lord for wisdom in what to do for the scripture says it is better to marry than to burn in lust. The children have been sanctified from the marriage and are married themselves. So now there is little recourse but to go ahead and seek a divorce.
