Welcome to Ning

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And ye became followers of the Lord and of us, having received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Ghost: I Thessalonians 1:6

The Greek word for the follower is Mimetes which means an imitator. It is essential who we follow, as many on social media have hundreds, even millions of followers and we must be careful that who we follow, or imitate, are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul said to follow me as I follow the Lord who alone is worthy to be followed. Otherwise, if the blind leads the blind they will fall into the ditch. So be careful who you follow and examine their lives to see if they are true followers of the Lord. As the Thessalonians were following the Lord and Paul, as well as his sons in the ministry. Satan has his ministers who parade around as angels of light, deceiving many. We must be fruit inspectors who can examine that those who we follow are bearing the fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, patience, meekness, peace, kindness, as well as self-control. That is why having received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Ghost they became great followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. So as we examine ourselves, and who other people follow, we must make sure that we are fruit-bearing saints. For Jesus said ye shall know the tree by the fruit that it bears.

  • #For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power and the Holy Ghost and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. I Thessalonians. 1:5

Happy Thanksgiving everyone I pray that you can be with your families today and thank the Lord to be in the land of the living and give thanks for all things which is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus.

The Greek word for power is Dynamis from this we get might, and strength from Dunamai force (literally or figuratively) and miraculous power, ability, and abundance. Universally, inherent power resides in a thing by virtue of its nature or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth. We get the English word Dynamite and this is how the gospel came not unto you in word only, but by this power and of the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance. As well as our reputation among you was well known as to what manner of men we were among you for your sake. Thank God for this power of the Holy Spirit that is given to us to live the Christian life being thankful in all our circumstances, as some of us have lost loved ones, been separated from spouses, and suffered from natural disasters. Nevertheless, God is good all the time and has blessed us to be alive to give thanks and glory to Him for His goodness in the midst of it all. So eat in moderation and keep the peace in the family as everyone gathers around the table.

  • #Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. I Thessalonians 1:4

The Greek word for Knowing is Oida meaning to be aware, behold, consider, and perceive. Also used by those to whom something is presented in vision, as the author of the Apocalypse related that he saw this or that, i.e. such a sight never befell us in Mark 2:12 Thus it is important for us to know our election is sure brethren and sisters. The Greek word for election is Ekloge which means a Divine selection. Specifically used of that act of God's free will by which before the foundation of the world He decreed His blessing to certain persons, particularly that by which He determined in eternity past to bless certain persons through Christ Romans 11:28 Plato, Aristotle, Polybius, and others marveled at this. We as Christians can be secure in our salvation by knowing that God chose us in Christ to be clothed in His righteousness which comes by faith in His shed blood for us on the Cross for our sins, Now we are accepted in the Beloved and eternally secure in our salvation. Does this doctrine mean that some people were not destined to be saved? No, God knew through His omniscience all those who would place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. God is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance in Jesus Christ. On Judgment Day, no one will be able to say that they did not have an opportunity to be saved, as this gospel has been preached throughout the whole world. This is why we as ambassadors for Christ must be proactive in our faith to advance the gospel so that many more souls can be added to the Kingdom.

  • #Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of Love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; I Thessalonians 1:3

The Greek word for love in this context is Agape which comes from Agapao; love, i.e. Affection or benevolence; especially (plural) a love feast of charity. This is purely Biblical and ecclesiastical in conjecture long ago used by secular authors from Aristotle. This is the Love that the Lord Jesus Christ has for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us; the just for the unjust, and said a new love give I unto you that ye love one another as I have loved you. This is the same type of love that these Thessalonians have for our Lord Jesus Christ in their ceasing without working in faith, and their patience of hope in Christ, in sight of God our heavenly Father. Paul writes in I Cor. 13 Now abides faith, hope, and love but the greatest of these is love. This is what the Lord Jesus commanded Peter when He said do you love Me? Peter answered in Pheleo which is friendship and love. Jesus commanded Peter to feed my sheep, for it takes Agape love to do that and not just Pheleo. What a great example these Thessalonians have set for us today as so many lack Agape love for one another. Jesus said in the last days because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. As we see the Day of Christ approaching we must provoke one another to love and do good works, We must have this same labor of Love without ceasing in faith, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of God our Father.

  • #We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; IThessalonians 1:2

The Greek word for giving thanks is Eucharistos which means to be grateful, i.e. (actively) to express gratitude; especially, to say grace at a meal. To be grateful, feel thankful; so in the decree of the Byzantines in Demosthenes just as President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the National Day on the fourth Thursday of November to be a Holiday. We thank God for this as Christians, for we are always called to thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us. As the Scripture says Give thanks in all things which is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus. I Thessalonian 5:17 And so here Paul is reinforcing the principle we give thanks to God always for you all. In Texas, we would say hey Ya'll we be making mention of you in our prayers. Jesus told us to do good to all men especially those of the household of faith. So find someone who needs a meal and feed them. Give to a charity that helps the poor and economically disadvantaged. When we do this we are showing the world that we are Christians through the love that we have for one another. We must make our supplication to God giving thanks and praying in the Spirit for others.

  • #Paul and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 1:1

The Greek word for Thessalonians is Thessalonikeus which is a Thessalonican, i.e. Inhabitant of Thessalonice from Thessalos (a Thessalian) and nike; Thessalonice, a place in Asia Minor a city of Macedonia. Thessalonica (now Saloniki), a celebrated and populous city, situated on the Thermaic Gulf, the capital of the second division of Macedonia and the residence of a Roman governor and quaestor. It was anciently called Therme, but rebuilt by Cassander, the son of Antipater, and called by its new name in honor of his wife Thessalonica, the sister of Alexander the Great. Here, Paul, the apostle founded a Christian Church. So now Paul is with Silvanus, and Timotheus his sons in the ministry strengthening the Church in Thessalonica which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: He says, Grace which in the Greek is Charis which means kindness to be unto you and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ which shows the Heavenly Father that we all have and our Elder brother the Lord Jesus Christ who has purchased us with His Blood. We will hear these terms a lot in this book and peace is a by-product of the filling of the Holy Spirit thus the blessed Trinity is at work.

  • #Preaching the Kingdom of God and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him. Acts 28:31

The Greek word for forbidding is Akolytos which means without hindrance from a compound and a derivative of Koluo; in an unhindered manner, i.e. Freely no man forbidding him. This shows us what a powerful move of the Holy Spirit was upon the people as Paul preached the Kingdom of God and those things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout this book of Acts, Paul and Peter preached the Kingdom of God and the power of the Holy Spirit and had much opposition but now no man is forbidding Paul as he preaches as we come to the end of the Book. Koluo the Greek word Kolyo which means to hinder is from the base of Kolazo; to estop, i.e. Prevent. So nothing can prevent the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ from being preached and the Kingdom of God from being advanced. My prayer for all of you as we prepare to celebrate the national day of Thanksgiving is that you have been blessed as we have studied this line by line and precept upon the precept of the book of Acts. Now I shall go to the book of I Thessalonians.

  • #And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house and received all that came in unto him, Acts 28:30

The Greek word for hired house is Misthoma meaning rent or a rented house. This is from the Greek word Misthoo to let out for wages, i.e. (middle voice) to hire. We get the Greek word Misthos which means a reward apparently a primary word for pay for services (literally or figuratively) good or bad. Compensation used of the fruit naturally results from toils and divine recompense endeavors. So Paul was a tent maker by trade, so we can deduce that he used his skills as a tentmaker and preaching to receive wages to pay for the rent house.  Of the rewards which God bestows, or will bestow, upon good deeds and endeavors. To have a reward is used for those for whom a reward is reserved by God, for whom a divine reward awaits. For it is God who gives us the power to earn income and we should use our skills for the glory of God and help others that have a need. For when we stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ we will receive crowns as a reward for preaching the gospel. It is worthy for ministers to be paid for preaching the gospel since they are saving souls. So if we can pay ball players, then we should not complain about paying ministers either. I do not charge for doing this Blog, but it cost me $300 a year to keep this Blog on the web. I trust the Lord to provide for me and know that He provides for all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. So this is what Paul is doing and he received everything that God provided for him.

  • #Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. Acts 28:28

The Greek word for salvation is Soterios which means saving and is Neuter of the same as Soteria which means defender. He who embodies this salvation, or through whom God is about to achieve it: of the Messiah. Luke 2:30 and the plural occurs in the same sense in Xenophon, Polybius, Diodorus, Plutarch, Lucian, and Herodian. So we see the Jews as a whole rejected this salvation so Paul was sent to the Gentiles, who would believe it. And when he had said these words, the Jews departed and had great reasoning among themselves. Thank God that the unbelief of the Jews led to the salvation of the Gentiles. We are as the wild Olive shoot that is engrafted into the Vine. If therefore the unbelief of the Jews brings salvation to the Gentiles, what more shall their belief bring? Yes, all of Israel will be saved in the Latter Days when they shall say blessed is He who comes in the name of Hossana.

  • #And when they agreed not among themselves,  they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, Acts 28:25

The Greek word for Holy Ghost is Pneuma which means wind; a current air, i.e. Breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively, vital principle, mental disposition, etc., (superhuman ) divine Christ's Spirit. Pneuma is the rational and immortal soul which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew Nephesh, life, mind, soul. Thus Paul poured out his soul to the people and they agreed not among themselves and departed after that Paul had spoken one word the Rhema by implication a matter or topic meaning a word by implication of the matter. So it took the Pneuma of the Holy Ghost to drive the matter home. Saying, Go unto this people and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand and seeing ye shall see and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross and their ears are dull of hearing and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart, and should be converted and I should heal them. That is why the Lord Jesus always said let him that hath ears hear what the Spirit is saying to him. Thus you must have spiritual ears to understand the Word of God and when you do then you can be healed.
