A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #For this cause also thank God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. I Thessalonians 2:13

The Greek word for effectual is Energeo which means to be at work, to do. In the aorist tense perfect and intransitive, to be operative and put forth in power. unto the assumption of the apostolic office. This was the evidence that Paul had received the gift of an apostle and the people did not receive the word as coming from men but as it is in truth, the word of God. As we celebrate the first Advent the Word, in Greek, the Logos became flesh and He dwelt among us Christmas is all about the Word becoming flesh this is the incarnation and why we accept it as truth from the apostolic office as these apostles were eyewitnesses to His glory. I thank God we can rejoice that Jesus is coming back as the King of kings and Lord of lords in the second Advent. Let us put off the works of darkness and put on the armor of Light. So that we will have that righteousness which comes not from the Law, but by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • #That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto His kingdom and glory. I Thessalonians 2:12

The Greek word for worthy is Axios which means appropriately as becometh, after a godly sort, worthily. from Sophocles. So it is this Advent season we must be careful to live the Christian life so that as we go to meet people at parties and Holiday events they can see the Lord Jesus Christ in us. That is why Paul was mentoring Sylvanus and Timotheus to the Thessalonians. The only Bible that people will read is the life that they see us live each and every day. So live a life of Christ by walking worthy of God. As Paul said I beat myself under subjection so that after I have preached to others I will not become a castaway.

  • #As ye know how we exhorted and comforted  and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, I Thessalonians 2:11

The Greek word for exhorted is Parakaleo which means to call to or for to encourage; i.e. Invite, intreat, and pray. As in Greek authors, to admonish: Absolutely. Paul encouraged the brethren in Thessalonica and comforted them then he charged everyone just as a father doth his children. Paul was a spiritual father to Sylvanus and Timotheus and therefore he was the perfect example for the Church. This Advent season is a mentor to young children who may be fatherless and looking for encouragement in this Christmas season. Let them know that God loved us so much that He incarnated his only Son to die on the cross for our sins. Pray for their families to place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as the risen Savior of the world.

  • #Ye are witnesses and God also, how holly and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: I Thessalonians 2:10

The Greek word for unblameable is Amemptos is faultlessly so that there is no cause for censure: Thus Paul determined to behave among the Thessalonians with holiness, and faultlessly so that they would not be a stumbling block among those that believe. As we celebrate this Advent season let us so exalt Jesus Christ so that all will believe that He is the reason for the Christmas Season. Let us give of ourselves to others in need so that they will see no greed in us, but thanksgiving. For our, God is a consuming fire and it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Let us sing Corals to the glory of God and fellowship one with another forgiving one another just as Christ has forgiven us.

  • #For ye remember, brethren, our labor and travail: for laboring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached the gospel of God. I Thessalonians 2:9

The Greek word for travail is Mochthos which means toil, hardship, i.e. sadness, and painfulness. So Paul uses these birthing terms. to the Thessalonians in difficulty, sadness laboring night and day because we would not be chargeable unto any of you we, therefore, preached the gospel of God to you. Thus we should work and travail in this Advent season to preach about the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to take us to our heavenly home. Buying gifts and going to parties, and drinking, is not what the season is all about, but unto us, a Son is given, He shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Let us tell the people of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. For He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and by His stripes, we are healed. Many people are suffering from mental illness and SAD this Holiday Season for they need to hear the good news about Jesus as Savior and Lord.

  • #So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. I Thessalonians 2:8

The Greek word for affectionately is Homeiromai which means a yearning of uncertain affinity; too long for especially of the longing of love, i.e. your souls, to win them to Christ. So it is Paul was willing to have imparted unto you, not only the gospel of God but also our own souls. This is the deepest kind of love because ye were dear unto us. This is the love that God has for us and wants us to have for one another, just as Paul did.

  • #But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: I Thessalonians 2:7

The Greek word for cherisheth is Ean which is a conditional particle; in case that provided, etc; often used in connection with other particles to denote indefiniteness or uncertainty. Used with the subjunctive, according to the regular usage of the more ancient and elegant classic writers. such as Hermann and Viger. So Paul is saying our love for you was as indefinite as a nurse is to her children. As we celebrate the first Advent let us remember the love that God has for us in how He nursed the Lord Jesus in the manger keeping Him from all danger. As Mary and Joseph behold and pondered these things. Christmas is more than shopping and buying gifts and loving people enough to tell them that Jesus is the reason for the season. He is that indescribable gift that God gave us on Christmas and we need the world to know it as they magnify Santa Clause, who has nothing to do with Christmas. It is my prayer that you will gather your family around the fireplace and tell them about the love of God and how real it is for us that Jesus who knew no sin was made sin for us so that we could inherit His righteousness. Now we are forgiven and set free from the penalty of sin clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

  • #Nor of men sought we glory neither of you nor yet of others when we might have been burdensome as the apostles of Christ. I Thessalonians 2:6

The Greek word for glory is Dokeo which means praise and worship that belong to the Lord Jesus Christ only. For God will not share His glory with any man so Paul is attesting to the fact that they did not seek out any glory of others when we might have been burdensome as the apostles of Christ. Just as the angels said in the first Advent glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, and goodwill toward men on whom His favor rests. So as we celebrate Christmas this year let us give the greatest gift to others which are saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who came to this earth as a servant and humbled Himself to death on the Cross. Wherefore God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name that is above every name, that we should bow and call Him Lord to the glory of God.

  • #For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: I Thessalonians 2:5

The Greek word for cloke is En means in, on, at, by, and with. It is a primary preposition denoting fixed position (in place, time, or state) i.e., A relation of rest. Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and not to indicate a direction, except elliptically by a separate preposition. Tropically, applied to things not perceived by the senses. So Paul neither at any time used flattering words of or a cloke of covetousness, as God is our witness: What a blessing as we celebrate the first Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ we must speak the truth in love as God above is our witness that we will have to give an account on the day of Judgment. It is my prayer that you will meditate on the scriptures as Isaiah prophesied 700 years in advance of His coming and yet there was no room for the Babe in the Inn. No room for Jesus today as more people are concerned about parties, shopping, and overeating. Let not your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting as the coming of the Lord will be as a thief in the night and many will be caught unawares as they were at His first coming. Be ye also ready, for at such a time as ye think not the Son of Man will appear.

  • #But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so, we speak; not as pleasing men, but God trieth our hearts. I Thessalonians 2:4

This is the first day of Meteorological Winter and it feels like it, so it is as if we were allowed by God to be put in trust with the gospel. The Greek word for trust is Pisteuo which means to believe and to entrust. Thus the Lord God has entrusted us to speak the gospel, not as pleasing men. For we must be ministers in a good report and bad report. Jesus said they hated me and the servant is not greater than the Master so they will hate you. So as we preach we step on toes and others get angry and spread lies or as it is said today misinformation about you to damage your reputation. Jesus made Himself of no reputation but took upon Him the form of a servant and being fashioned as a servant He humbled Himself to death on the cross and God hath highly exalted Him to the right Hand of the Father in heaven. So the cross comes before the crown, thus we must have our hearts trieth by the Holy Spirit. So burn with zeal so when the Lord returns He will find us on fire doing the work that He commanded us to do in the vineyard. Preach the Word in season and out of season. Preach when they want to hear you and when they do not want to hear you. Make full proof of your ministry.
