A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. II Thessalonians 3:10

The Greek word for work is Ergazomai which means to search or examine, do labor. From the middle voice Ergon; to toil ( as a task, occupation, etc) effectively to be engaged in or with a trade. Matt. 25:16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, making them other five talents. Jesus gave all of us talents and expects us to earn other talents as the worker did with the five talents, for he doubled his talents. Jesus commended him for being a good servant. The one worker who refused to use his one talent had the Lord take it from him. So the command that if any man would not work, neither should he eat still applies to us. President Lydon Bains Johnson issued the Great Society and this appeared to be a good thing but many have used the welfare from the Government as a sign that they do not have to work to eat. The Government is faced with deficient spending and a budget deficit because of these policies and making it harder every year for Congress to raise the Debt Limit. It is time that we talk to our children about how important it is to get a trade or skill that they can use to support their families. Paul said if any man would not support his family he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel. Let us work while it is Day for when the night comes no man will be able to work

  • #Not because we have no power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. II Thessalonians 3:9

The Greek word for ensample is Typos which means typically. From Tupto; a die (as struck), i.e. (by implication) a stamp or scar; by analogy, a shape, i.e. A statue the style or resemblance or fashion, manner, and pattern. Amos 5:6 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.  Paul is warning the brethren not to make idols of them, but to be an ensample of righteousness as you follow us. Paul would later say follow me as I follow Christ. Moloch in the Hebrew was a king Nehemiah 1:4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and mourned certain days and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. This is what we should do is to fast, and pray before the God of heaven that we not make idols of men but shall only serve the true and living God of heaven as Nehemiah did.

  • #For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; Neither did we eat any man's bread for naught but wrought with labor and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: II Thessalonians 3:7,8

The Greek word for travail is Mochthos which means toils and hardship. From the base of Mogis; toil, i.e. (by implication) sadness and painfulness. II Cor. 11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watching often in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Paul shared his experience among the Thessalonians of his pain and labor in serving the Lord so that we would not think that because we are Christians we will not sail through life on flowery beds of ease. Acts 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples and exhorting them to continue in the faith and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. So keep working and waiting for the coming of the Lord. Then we will not be chargeable to any of the brethren.

  • #Now we command you, brethren in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly and not after the tradition which he received of us. II Thessalonians 3:6

The Greek word for disorderly is Ataktos which means irregularly (morally) according to Plato. Paul is using this norminclature to describe the brother who is out of fellowship with the Lord and living in sin..The Greek word for withdraw is Stello which means to restrain. II Cor. 8:20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in  the sight of men. This is the context as we must live a circumspect life before the Lord Jesus and in the sight  of men. So if a brother is not doing this then it is ok to withdraw from him for walking disorderly and not after the tradition which he received of us.

  • #And the Lord directs your hearts into the love of God and into the patient waiting for Christ. II Thessalonians 3:5

The Greek word for the patient is Hypomone which means remaining behind and steadfastly enduring. James 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful and tender of mercy. This is the same patient enduring that we must do for the coming of the Lord, for He is not willing that any would perish but that all would come unto repentance. So we must patiently wait as Job said all the days of my appointed time I would wait until my change comes. We are like gold in the furnace when the fire removes all the dross from our lives so that we will come out as pure gold. Jesus said all those whom I love I chasten. So despise not the chastening of the Lord for soon afterward it yields the peaceful fruits of righteousness. So as we see the Day of Christ approaching let us provoke one another to love and do good works.

  • #And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. II Thessalonians 3:4

The Greek word for confidence is Peitho which means to persuade or to convince by analogy, to pacify or conciliate (by inward certainly) agree, assure, and believe by making friends trusting and yielding to. This is what Paul is assured of in the Lord touching you and the things which we command you to do and are doing them. I Cor. 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. This is the confidence we have when we preach the Word of God that the Holy Spirit will give us the power to give confidence to the hearers to be doers of the Word and not just hearers only deceiving themselves. May the Lord Jesus comfort your hearts to obey the scriptures and impart your faith to others powerfully.

  • #But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you and keep you from evil. II Thessalonians 3:3

The Greek word for evil is Poneros which means toilsome and bad. From a derivative of Ponos; hurtful, i.e. but especially (morally) culpable and malicious. Matt. 12:45 Then goeth he and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself and they enter in and dwell there and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so, shall it be also unto this wicked generation. This is the epidemy of evil as the man that was delivered from the demoniac returned to his old way of life and then the demons took seven other spirits more wicked than himself and they enter and dwell in that home and the last state is worst than the first. Therefore, pray that the Lord who is faithful will deliver us from this evil and pugnacious generation.

  • #And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. II Thessalonians 3:2

The Greek word for unreasonable is Atopos which means out of place or strange and amiss. From Topos; out of place, i.e. (figuratively) improper and injurious. Luke 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds but this man hath done nothing amiss. This was what the thief on the cross saith to the Lord Jesus, and then he said Lord when you come into your kingdom remember me. Then Jesus told him this day shalt thou be with Me in paradise. Paul is asking for prayers to be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men because not all men have faith in Jesus. Thank God that He answers those prayers and protects us from such people and we can witness to them by the way we live and win them to Christ. Never feel like you are out of place for God, for just like that thief on the cross, he was at the right place and the right time to see Jesus and be saved.

  • #Finally brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have a free course and be glorified, even as it is with you. II Thessalonians 3:1

The Greek word for a free course is Trecho meaning to run or to run or walk hastily. I Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. Paul is using this term as a free course and Trecho to tell the brethren that the Christian life is like running a race. So run, that ye may obtain the prize by allowing the word of the Lord to have a free course in their lives. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus who is the Author and finisher of our faith who endured the cross and despised the shame, now He is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding for us.

  • #Comfort your hearts and stablish you in every good word and work. II Thessalonians 2:17

The Greek word for stablish is Sterizo which means to make fast and establish. To turn resolutely in a certain direction and confirm steadfastly. Thus Paul is telling the brethren to comfort themselves and establish their hearts with a good word and work. That is what we are seeking to do with this Blog by trying to comfort those with mental illness into the word of God with good works. Jesus told Paul my grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect with your weakness. Thus Paul learned to boast of his weaknesses. So if you have been diagnosed don't let this be a stigma but rejoice in the Lord always for His grace is sufficient for thee, just as it was for the apostle Paul. Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD cursed be the man that trusted in man and maketh flesh his arm and whose heart departeth from Jehovah. Trust in the word of God and put not your confidence in a man whose breath is in his nostrils.
