  #And when much people were gathered together and were come to Him out of every city He spake by a parable: A sower went out to sow his seed and as he sowed some fell by the wayside and it was trodden down and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. And other fell on good ground and sprang up and bear fruit a hundredfold. And when he had said these things He cried: he that hat ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 8:4-8

  • The disciples asked Jesus what the parable meant and He said unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to others in parables that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand. The seed is the word of God, those by the wayside are they that hear then cometh the devil and taketh away the word of God out of their hearts lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they when they hear receive the word with joy and these have no root which for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they which when they have heard go forth and are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word keep it and bring forth fruit with patience. This is how some bear thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold because they allow the word to produce fruits in their hearts. What a blessing this parable to those of us who preach the word of God, for we are only responsible for the broadcasting of the seed. It is the Holy Spirit that prepares the soil in the heart to accept it. That is why Paul said I plant and Apollos waters, but God gives the increase. We must be faithful in our broadcasting the word and pray as the harvest is white, that the Holy Spirit will send forth more workers into the vineyard to broadcast the seed. May the Lord bless you richly my beloved to do just that.

Luke 8:1-3

  • These women gave their possessions unto Jesus as He heals them of their deceases and cast out devils of Mary Magdalene. Jesus taught all the glad news of the kingdom of God and what joy would come to this world when He is ruling as well as reigning in the victory. What joy this shall bring to all and we have much to promote as His disciples today. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto thee. May we realize that we are stewards of all that the Lord has given us to be used in His service.

  #And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon,  I have somewhat to say unto thee, and he said Master say on; there was a certain creditor which had two debtors, the one owed five hundred pence and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me, therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered I suppose the one whom he forgave the most. And He said unto him, thou hast rightly judged. Luke 7:40-43

  • Jesus tells this story to the Pharisee Simon who was complaining about Jesus allowing the woman, who was a sinner, which was a modern-day prostitute, who used an alabaster jar to anoint his feet, saying if He were a prophet He would know what kind of a woman this was. Anyway, Jesus asked Simon to judge the creditor who forgave both the debtors who would love him most? Simon judged the one who was forgiven the most. Jesus said he had correctly judged. This creditor is our Heavenly Father who has forgiven us our sins because we could not pay for them. Jesus is the propitiation for our sins when He died on the cross. What the woman did was showing thanksgiving for Jesus being the Savior of the world and she knew that her sins which were many had been forgiven so she did not stop kissing the feet of Jesus and wiping them with her hairs. Simon, whose sins were few has been forgiven but did not anoint the feet of Jesus as this woman did as a sign of her love so he testified to the fact that he loved little. While the woman who had sinned much loved much. We must be careful how we judge people, for as we get ready to celebrate Valentine's Day, we should love much as this woman because Jesus who loved us the most went to the cross to pay our sin debt that we could not pay. So we should love one another and not be judgmental as Simon was of this woman for anointing the feet of Jesus. May God bless us to do just that as I love Jesus because He first loved me. Enjoy the Lord's Day and show some love to your brothers and sisters. Despise, not the day of small things, do small acts of love and kindness. God is well pleased with us when we do that. Do not be offended of Jesus, when people ask why you love so much, just say because God loved me the most for sending His only Son to die on the cross for my sin debt. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  #Then Jesus answering said unto them, go your way and tell John what things ye have seen and heard how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me. Luke 7:22,23

  Jesus instructed the disciples of John what to tell him, as John was in prison and feeling discouraged, so Jesus tells all the things He has been doing in fulfillment of prophecy. Then Jesus asked the question: what went ye out into the wilderness to see? Is a reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you much more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written, behold, I send my messenger before thy face which shall prepare the way for thee. For I say unto you, among those born of women, there is none greater than John the Baptist, but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. What a compliment Jesus gives John the Baptist and this is just what he needed to lift his spirit. May we seek to be the least in the Kingdom of God.

  #Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee, but say in a word and my servant shall be healed. For I am also a man set under authority, having under me soldiers and I say unto one, go and he goeth and to another come and he cometh and to my servant do this and he doeth it. When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him and turned about and said unto the people that followed Him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick. Luke 7:7-10

  • The Centurion is a man of authority and great faith, for there are two types of faith: little faith, and great faith. Jesus is amazed that in all of Israel He could not find anyone with the great faith of this Centurion. So Jesus immediately heals the servant of the Centurion and expresses his great faith. The disciples in the hearing were all in awe of the Centurion. We can learn a lot from this example of great faith: for the Centurion said he was not worthy and people with great faith realize their unworthiness in the sight of God. For God is moved when we see our hopelessness, without him. Second, we see that he knew how to delegate authority and people with great faith know how to use authority the right way. How our senators and congressmen need to learn this lesson, for the second time the Government is shut down. For Government of the people shall not end, and this is the great principle that our Constitution is founded upon and it is high time that our leaders realize this before they get voted out of office. Government is of the people and for the people and to shut down Government is totally irresponsible. Let us pray that this shut down will not last long and that our leaders can place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to run this great democracy of ours. We look forward to the day when the Government shall be on His shoulders and there will be peace without end.

  #But love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again and your reward shall be great and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not and ye shall not be judged: condemn not and ye shall not be condemned: forgive and ye shall be forgiven: Give and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal, it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:35-38

  • Jesus is giving the beatitudes for us to live by, to love your enemies and do good, to lend hoping for nothing in return. For great will be your reward in heaven and you will be children of the Highest. For every tree is known by the fruit that it bears. And why call me your Lord and do not the things which I say? For we are challenged to love and live by the Sermon on the mount so he that heareth and doeth not is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth: against which the stream did beat vehemently and immediately it fell and the ruin of that house was great. This is a profound teaching and let us by the grace of God do as Jesus has said so that we can be called children of the Highest. Let us work with the Master Builder and work to enter the strait gate for narrow is the way that leads to eternal life and few there be that ever find it. For broad is the road that leads to destruction and many there be on that path. May the Lord bless you richly my beloved to do all these things.

  #But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you. Bless them that curse you and pray for them which despitefully use you. Luke 6:24-28

  • Jesus uses four woes to warn us about: Woe unto you that are rich, speaking of those at ease in Zion, and woe to those who are full, speaking of those who have plenty of food, but not the word of God, for they will hunger for it when it is too late to receive it. Woe to you who laugh now, speaking of those engaging in injustice against the poor and needy, for God is a buckler for the poor. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, speaking of the false prophets who tickle the ears of those who want to be tickled but fail to warn of impending judgment, for God will punish them on the day of judgment. Then Jesus tells us who to love, as most would say love your friends while hating your enemies. While Jesus said to love your enemies, bless those who despitefully use you and pray for them. This is what we do as children of God, for blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. When we forgive men their trespasses we are acting like God, for He forgives us our trespasses. I have been challenged to do all of these things in a business transaction that went wrong and by the grace of God, I have done what Jesus said to do. May the Lord bless you too as you live the beatitudes.

  #And He lifted up His eyes on His disciples and said, Blessed, be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. Luke 6:20-23

  This chapter gives the abridged version of the Sermon on the mount, where Jesus is giving the beatitudes. Blessed are ye poor, is a reference to the poor in spirit as well as the poor with material things, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger, is a reference to those who hunger for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now is a reference to those who suffer injustice, for in the kingdom of God Jesus will rule with a rod of iron and righteousness will be the foundation of His kingdom, we will laugh in the kingdom of God at all the injustice we suffered on earth. Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and separate you from their company, is a reference to the segregation of the races on earth, for in the Kingdom of God there will not be any segregation, for all kindreds and nations will praise God together. All the reproach that we suffer for being a Christian will be rewarded for in the Kingdom of heaven, just as the prophets will who suffer many things at the hands of the Pharisees and scribes. What a day that will be when we all get to heaven so rejoices now.

And Jesus answering them said, have ye not read so much as this what David did, when himself was hungry and they were with him. How he went into the house of God and did take and eat the shewbread and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priest alone? Luke 6:2-4

  • Jesus tells the story to the Pharisees about David eating the shewbread and gave to them with him on the Sabbath day which was not lawful. He said this to show that Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and just as God the Father did not condemn David for what he did, neither would Jesus condemn the disciples for what they did for they too were hungry. Never try to trap others for what they cannot do on the Sabbath days cause Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath.

  #And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that He went through the corn fields and His disciples plucked the ears of corn and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. Luke 6:1

  Let us remember that the Sabbath was made for man, and Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. So do not be as one of those who would say that they are breaking the Sabbath by plucking the ears of corn and eating them. If an ox would fall in a ditch on the Sabbath, then who among you would not get him out? So this is the same principle, for the disciples are hungry and it is lawful for them to pluck ears of corn and eat them on the Sabbath day. My brothers and sisters do not stumble over the truth of scripture for this are why we have the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, for He takes the things of Christ and makes them real to us so that we can understand them. May the Lord bless you to have a super Sunday, even though the world will celebrate the Superbowl, we Christians know that every Sunday is a super Sunday. So have a great time with family and friends giving thanks for the many blessings that God has in store for us this day, for this is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it.
