A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. I beseech Euodias and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. Phil. 4:1,2

Paul wants the Church to have the mind of Christ and to help one another in the Lord. These two sisters had been competing against one another, which was counterproductive. The Church was not to act as the Gentiles did by lording themselves over the other. The key was to be happy and thankful for the Lord at all times. Jesus had settled who would be the greatest by placing a child in their midst earlier to stop the disciples from competing against one another.

  • #For our conversation is in heaven, from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself. Phil. 3:20,21

Our conversation is in heaven, where our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ is. Therefore, we must not be conformed to this world, but transformed, for Christ will change our vile body so that it will look like His glorious body. This is the glorified body that we will get at the first resurrection. So we need to be careful and prayerful who we hang around so that we shall not be polluted with this world. For friendship with the world is enmity with God. Love not this world, nor the things of this world, for all that is in the world, is the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. All these things are passing away, but those that do the will of God will abide forever.

  • #(For many walks, of whom I have told you often and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) Phil. 3:18,19

Paul is reflecting on the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose God is their belly and whose glory is their shame, they mind earthly things, even though they pretend to be true followers of Christ, God shall reveal who they are on judgment day. Be careful who you emulate, for not all those talking about heaven are going to heaven. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.Praise God that He is a rewarder of those who keep His commandments. So as Jesus said, if you love me, then keep my commandments.Beware of those who only lust after earthly things, for whoso loves the world, then the love of the Father is not in them. A true follower of Christ will mind heavenly things.

  • #Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. Brethren, be ye followers together of me and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example. Phil. 3:16,17

Paul is in the example state, as he was a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and the believers had him for a perfect example, which meant maturity as a Christian. I think of many leaders who live a false life and hide behind the fact of being a mature believer. God will reveal on judgment day who the true followers of Christ are. The fact that we all make mistakes cannot be hid, as I have had to deal with being separated from my wife for over a year, but I steadfastly continue to follow my marriage vows. These are difficult things to do, but by the grace of God, I trust Him to keep me faithful while I wait for my mate to return to the marriage. This is important when we look for examples of Christians who remain faithful in difficult situations, but just as Paul could say, I am what I am by the grace of God. Wait I say upon the Lord and He shall restore you on that perfect day when we see Jesus.

  • #I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us, therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded and if, in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal this unto you. Phil. 3:14,15

Paul's goal was to press for the prize of the upward calling of God in Christ Jesus. This is to be the mindset of the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. For if we are going to be perfect, then we must let this mind of Christ be with us at all times. For Christ thought it not robbery to be the same as God but made Himself of no reputation. He took upon Him the form of a servant and became obedient toward death. Therefore, God hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name that is above all names, that at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord to the glory of God.

  • #Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect, but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:12

Paul is concerned that he addresses perfection in the life of the believer. For to will was Paul's way to explain how difficult it was. Perfection is what the scripture tells us on the Sermon on the mount. Jesus told the people to be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. Whatever God tells us to do, then by the grace of God then, we can do it in Christ Jesus. We have to allow the Holy Spirit to have full control of our bodies, for us to do that. Then and only then will we be able to live a perfect life.

  • #That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto His death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Phil 3:10,11

Paul is desiring to know Christ in the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering at the cross, so that He may attain unto the life of resurrection. What a glorious goal for all of us, for to live is Christ and to die is gain. Therefore it is better to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. It is my prayer that if you are not ready that you would receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today.

  • #And be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. Phil. 3:9

Paul is looking at the righteousness that comes by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and not of works lest any man should boast. That is what makes us accepted in the Beloved Lord God.

  • #Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee: Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching righteousness which is in the law, blameless. Phil. 3:4-6

Paul gives his pedigree to prove he has wherefore to trust in the flesh. Yet the more he points out his strengths he realizes that all of that is rubbish. But what things were gain to me, those things I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ. Dung is the lowest word. This is how low he had to go that he might win Christ Jesus the Lord. Praise God for this truth for it tells us that none of our righteousness is good enough to win Christ. It is by faith alone in Christ alone. This is a very special passage in the word of God.

  • #For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh. Phil. 3:3

For Paul is identifying with the Jews who worship God in the spirit, rejoices in Jesus Christ and have no trust in the flesh. Paul had a thorn in the flesh, yet he found that the grace of God is sufficient for all of his troubles. Therefore, he rejoiced in tribulation that the power of Christ was on him.
