Welcome to Ning

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Col.4:12

Paul is thankful for Epaphras who remembered to pray for everyone as a servant of Christ while saluting the brethren, that ye could stand perfect and complete in Christ in the will of God. What a believer to have on your team he was, and we modern day Christians can learn from his example. How the Church needs prayer warriors like Epaphras.

  • #Aristarchus my fellow-prisoner saluteth you and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he comes unto you, receive him;) and Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellow-workers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me. Col. 4:10,11

Paul was thankful for his fellow-workers and fellow-prisoners as God used them to help him spread the gospel. We should be thankful for our families this Thanksgiving season as life is much more enjoyable when you have others to share it with. May we not forget how they helped us through the difficulties of life, for in this God is praised and we count it all joy.

  • #Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate and comfort your hearts; With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here. Col. 4:8,9

Paul won the runaway slave Onesimus to Christ and now he is a faithful brother who is being used by the Church to deliver good news as well as comfort the hearts of the believers. Paul said in Gal. 6:10 Do good to all men especially those of the household of faith. Now is the time as we celebrate the National Day of Thanksgiving that we do good to all men encouraging families to come together in unity for the good of the family giving thanks to the Lord for all of His wonderful blessing bestowed on all of us.

  • #All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved and a faithful minister and fellow-servant in the Lord: Col. 4:7

Tychicus had a good reputation for being a good minister to the Apostle Paul, and thus he could declare his state in prison to the Colossians. It is so good to be a faithful minister of the Lord for when we get to heaven we want to hear those faithful words well done my good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord.

  • #Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Col. 4:6

Christians are to know how to bridle their tongue and answer every man for the hope that is within them. Just as salt is a preservative, so are Christians in this world and our conversation must match our confession. Grace is the unmerited favor and we have received that from God through Jesus Christ on the Cross, so we know how to extend it to others. Now with all this in mind let this act of Christ permeate your whole body so that others will be drawn to you for the faith and hope of the gospel.

  • #Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Col. 4:5

We all have twenty-four hours of the day to walk in wisdom toward them that are without the faith, for they may not hear our sermons, but they will observe our conversation daily by the way we live. So live such a life among the pagans that though they accuse you of wrong, they will be ashamed on the day that Christ redeems His Church. For tomorrow is not promised to take advantage of every opportunity to shine for Jesus. Let your light shine, that men may see your good works and glorify the Father in Heaven.

  • #Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Withal also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds; That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. Col. 4:2-4

Paul is in prison for preaching the gospel, yet he remains thankful and prayerful that a door will be opened for them to utter the mystery of Christ. It is amazing that these four prison epistles are written while Paul is in chains and they are very powerful. As we prepare to celebrate the National Day of Thanksgiving let us remember all that others have suffered so that we could have the Word of God to preach with and be thankful. I praise God for His healing power that has raised me up from the bed of affliction to service for our Savior. So let us continue in prayer and watching unto thanksgiving to the Lord.

  • #Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. Col. 4:1

Christian employers should pay and treat their employees the best knowing that they will have to answer to their Master in heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are in a slave economy, then treat your slaves with respect and do not abuse them. For God is watching and He will repay when they cry out to Him for help.

  • #But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect for persons. Col. 3:25

The companion verse to this one is Gal. 6:7 Be not deceived, for God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. No one gets away with wrong and it is like seeds that are sowed in a garden, there will surely be a harvest day. Some say you can hope for a crop failure, but God makes sure if you plant a grapefruit tree, you get grapefruits. Speaking of that my grapefruit tree only produced four grapefruits this year, while last year it was over three hundred. Be sure your sins will find you out. Confess your faults one to another repent and pay restitution for your faults.

  • #Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col. 3:22-24

Christians are to be the best employees, as we serve the Lord Christ and He will ultimately reward us for our work on the day of judgment. So do not complain that you do not make enough money, for the Lord will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. This was written in a slave economy, but in the world, slavery is still being practiced, yet the principle is still the same. All of this is what good Christians do as pleasing God and not man.
