A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

Yes the day of the Lord shall be a time of great darkness and shall come as a thief in the night. This period will be the 70th week of Daniel's prophecy of the tribulation, which will last for seven years. It will usher in the Kingdom of God when Christ shall return to earth with the saints and angels. This will be the millennial kingdom, and the devil will be bound for a thousand years, then afterward he will be loosed for a season to deceive the nations, then the fire will come down from heaven, which the elements shall melt away with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Then God will make a new heaven and earth. What a glorious time this will be for the kingdom shall last forever.
#But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. II Peter 3:8,9
God is not like us, for one day with God is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. So the Lord is not slack concerning his promise, but God is faithful to us, not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance. The Greek word for repentance is metanoia which means a change of mind about Jesus. God is waiting every day for men and women to turn from their sins to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

These wicked people are willingly ignorant of that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the people perished because the earth standing out of water being overflowed, and now by the same word are kept in store reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. It will not rainwater next time, but fire. We must warn people that the mercy of God is everlasting, but His patience is not. It will come at a time when the people are not expecting just like it did for the antediluvian generation. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

Peter is writing to warn us of the words of the holy prophets about the false prophets and the scoffers in the last days walking according to their lusts denying the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. They say that since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation and of this they are willingly ignorant of these things. Just as God was patient with the antediluvian generation, He is patient with this generation. A day with God is as a 1000 years, so since Christ died on the Cross it has been two days and God is not willing that any would perish but that all would come to the knowledge of salvation. We must be patient unto the coming of the Lord and warn others to repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand. God will not be patient forever so we must be ye also ready, for at a time when ye think not the Son of man will come.
#These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the midst of darkness is reserved for ever. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they had known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog has turned to his own vomit again and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. II Peter 2:17-22
This passage of scripture is known as the way of the prodigal pig, as sure as there was a prodigal son, now there is a way that seems right to a man, that ends in destruction. Just like the son got in the pigpen, he was not satisfied but said I will arise and return to my father's house. The pig that was washed from his squalor is returned to his vomit like the dog because pigs do not love being clean. The end of the person is worst for them than the beginning, since it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, they are without excuse.
#And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it a pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: a heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; but was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. II Peter 2:13-16
These false prophets shall receive the reward of their unrighteousness, as spots they are and blemishes. They have eyes full of adultery, as women can feel they are looking at them with their clothes off and raping them. They are covetous cursed children who have left the right way and gone astray following the way of Balaam, who was a crooked prophet who cursed Israel and God had to use a donkey to rebuke him. What a picture of this generation today that we have it is no wonder that there is so much corruption in the Church today. Peter has given us a blueprint on how to spot and avoid people who are as toothless salt today. If we will walk in the light as God is in the light the blood of Jesus will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let us go on to maturity trusting in his holy word, for we have come this far by faith leaning on the Lord as the hymn says. May the Lord direct your paths into the way of truth as you follow his commandments, my brothers and sisters.
#Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; II Peter 2:11,12
For the angels who have greater power, than these, and might bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. Just like Michael did not rebuke the devil for seeking the body of Moses, but said the Lord shall rebuke thee. These false prophets are not wise but are as a natural brute beast made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things they understand not, and shall utterly perish in their own corruption. We must do all we can to avoid people like this as they will increase more like the last days before the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
#(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. II Peter 2:8-10
Just Lot was vexed day by day with the filthy conversation of the wicked: For that righteous man dwelling among, which is in parenthesis, which means the translators added this to the Dead Sea Scrolls, seeing and hearing, was vexed with their unlawful deeds. The Lord knows how to deliver the righteous out of temptations and reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment. Just like God delivered Noah and his family, and Lot even though his daughters were delivered as well, but what they did after getting their Dad drunk was unethical. For those chiefly that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. We can see this today in our society, that people are presumptuous, self-willed, and are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. We must make sure that we honor dignities and obey the government, as long as they conform to the precepts of God. Nevertheless, Jesus said before his coming, the wicked will be as they were in the days of Noah and Lot. So we must be patient until the coming of the Lord as well as preachers of righteousness.
#For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing, in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodlily; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked; II Peter 2:4-7
God used two men Noah and Lot as ensamples of those who would live godly for judgment against those who lived exceeding sinful lives. They preached righteously to a wicked generation and the flood came and took them all away, saving Noah and his family. Lot was vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked and fire came down from God and destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha to demonstrate to all what shall happen to all those who live ungodly lives. We must warn those today, who complain about the coronavirus pandemic, but this is a judgment giving people time to repent and turn to Christ for the salvation of their souls. Lot was saved but his wife looked back and turned into a pillow of salt. Jesus said remember Lot's wife to warn all those what would happen if they turned back to the world of sin.
#But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom, the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. II Peter 2:1,2
We must be careful to know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Peter is warning the believers of many false prophets that shall come in in sheep clothing, denying the way of the truth. Jesus is the truth and He said if we abide in his commandments, then we would know the truth and the truth would set us free. So study the word of God, so that you will know the truth, and turn away from the error of the false teachers. They will deny the truth, even Jesus who saved them on the cross and you will know them by their fruit. Good fruit does not come from an evil tree and we are called to be fruit inspectors. As the scripture teaches holy men of old gave us the word of God, inspired by the Holy Ghost. So it is imperative that you study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, but rightly divides the way of truth.
