A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. Acts 9:19

Saul received the meat of the Word from Ananias and now the physical meat for his body to be strengthened. So Saul stayed a certain number of days  with the disciples which were at Damascus. He did not know at this time what great things he was going to suffer for the Lord but immediately he starts to preach the Word of God. But all that heard him were amazed and said; is not this he that destroyed them which called on the name of Jesus in Jerusalem? But Saul increased the more strength and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is the very Christ.  Normally one should not start preaching as a novice, yet Saul is not a novice since he has seen Jesus Christ and has been revived in mind, body, and spirit. We can learn much from the life of Saul as the Lord is using this man to turn the world upside down for Jesus. May the Lord use us in these last days as we proclaim the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ over the Internet, Radio, and Television. Trully many signs of an apostle were done in the life of Saul as he made full proof of his ministry.

  • #But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. Acts 9:15,16

Yes, the Lord replies to Ananias Saul is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel. Ananias is told to go thy way, for I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. Indeed Saul would be used by God to write thirteen books of the Bible, and if you believe he is the author of Hebrews, then he wrote fourteen books. So Ananias went his way, and entered into the house and putting his hands on him, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest hath sent me, that thou should receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scaled and he received sight forthwith, and arose and was baptized.

  • #Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. Acts 9:13,14

Ananias has reservations about the veracity of Saul's conversion because he has heard of the saints that at Jerusalem he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on the name of Jesus. It is said that Saul is being wrongfully accused because of his past reputation. A man named Anthony Broadwater was falsely accused of rape and served 16 yrs. in prison for a crime he did not commit. All because pubic hairs were extracted by the police to convict him. Thank God he has been exonerated and the woman who accused him has apologized. Ananias will have to do the same to Saul after the Lord rebukes him.

  • #And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus: for behold he is praying And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Acts 9:11,12

Ananias is told by God to Arise and go into the street which is called Straight and ask for Saul of Tarsus in the house of Judas. We do not know who this Judas is but he will receive Ananias for Saul has been praying and received a vision from God that Ananias would come and lay his hand on him that he might receive his sight. So Ananias is obedient to the voice of the Lord and goes as he is told. We too must be obedient to the Lord when He tells us to walk the straight and narrow way. For broad is the road that leads to destruction and many there be on that path. It takes born-again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to walk the narrow road called Straight on which few there be that travel.

  • #And he was three days without sight and neither did eat nor drink. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here Lord. Acts 9:9,10

Saul was three days blind and neither did eat or drink. Then the Lord told Ananias, who was a disciple at Damascus, to heal him and Ananias said behold, I am here Lord. This is to be our response to the Lord when he wants us willing and ready to obey Him. To be used by God we must be ready, willing, and available to be used by the Lord in His service. With this being Hannukkah we should celebrate with our Jewish brothers and sisters as we share in the festival of lights. Jesus is the Light of the world and all those who follow Him will not walk in darkness and will have the Light of lights. Jesus is the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father except by Him.

  • #And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man but they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. Acts 9:7,8

Saul is saved by the risen Savior on the Damascus road, and the men who were with him heard the voice, but were speechless because they did not see any man. Only Saul saw the Lord Jesus Christ and heard His voice. Then Saul's eyes were opened, apparently from being blinded by the light of the Lord, and arose from the earth, but the men led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. What a blessing as Saul is about to have his name changed to Paul and he will have his eyesight restored. We can see that Paul will take over the apostleship that Judas Iscariot forsook. Paul will be said of him by the saints at Jerusalem the persecutor is now praying. Many in the Church were in disbelief because this man had brought havoc upon the Church, but now he is a new creation in Christ Jesus. Old things are passed away and all things have become new. II Cor. 5:17 Since we have seen the salvation of Paul, we can see that God can save anyone and we should not stop praying for the salvation of our loved ones. For Paul stands as one of the greatest of the apostles, and he called himself the chief of sinners, yet he obtained mercy from God because he did it ignorantly. Let us not be weary in well-doing, for in due season we will reap, if we faint not.

  • #And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Acts 9:5

Saul was astonished at the voice and said who art thou, Lord? Then the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. The crucified Savior and resurrected from the grave. Then Jesus tells Saul it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Meaning the Lord alone can save him from the troubling spirits that are causing him to persecute Jesus, the head of the Church. And the Lord said unto him, Arise and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. We too can learn a lot from this salvation on the Damascus road by Saul: that is that the Lord will pursue us until we stop fighting against His Spirit. For the Lord came into the world to seek and to save the lost. So whatever you are doing stop and listen to the voice of the Lord for He loves you and wants to save you from an eternal hell. Call upon the name of the Lord and thou shalt be saved.

  • #And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven; And he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me? Acts 9:3,4

This is the Damascus road salvation of Saul and we thank God that He can take our persecutors and make them praying saints. This light from heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ and only Saul hears His voice when He speaks to him. Even though men were with Saul only Saul could hear our Lord's voice and understand it. This is the experience that qualified Paul to be an apostle.

  • #Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting and His truth endureth to all generations. Psalms 100:4,5

Happy Thanksgiving everyone for God is good let us sound His praises everywhere we go today for it is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord. So eat proportionately and enjoy your family. For Jehovah God is good and His mercy is everlasting and His truth endures to all generations.

  • #And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desired letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. Acts 9:1,2

Saul was known to the Church as the persecutor as he was a Pharisee ( Acts 22:3) and a trusted leader of its enemies. So he went to the high priest to seek letters to bring women and men bound unto Jerusalem. We can learn a lot from our enemies as Jesus told us to love our enemies and pray for those who despitefully use us. It was the prayer of Stephen before his death that led to the salvation of Saul. We must pray more when we are persecuted for God to save our persecutors. I remember when I told a co-worker I was praying for him, he said I better pray for myself. I thank the Lord he is now a strong Christian and my best brother in Christ. Thank God for the prayer of Stephen to not hold this sin against those who were stoning him, to which Saul was a witness to holding his garments. Saul after his name was changed to Paul said we must in all things give thanks for this is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus. So as we prepare to meet with our families over the Thanksgiving Holiday let us give thanks for our persecutors. For we never know when it will be said, our persecutors are now praying.
