A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, they who sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. I Thessalonians 4:14

The Greek word for sleep is Koimaomai which means to fall asleep in death. From Keimai; to put to sleep, i.e. (passively or reflexively) to slumber; figuratively to be dead. Metaphorically to still or calm and euphemistically to die I Cor.15:18 then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ have perished. This is a fatalistic view of the death of those who are not Christians. Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life, he that believes in Me shall never die. The Spirit returns to the Lord and the body goes to the grave awaiting the resurrection. This is what Paul wanted the brethren not to be ignorant of that death is with a coma, to be continued in the first resurrection of all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ because Jesus is the first fruit of all those who have died and was the first to be resurrected from the dead, then those of us who have fallen asleep will be raised bodily in our glorified state when Jesus returns for the Church in the gathering together in the sky. This is known as the Rapture of the Church. So Christians do not perish for as they have borne the terrestrial they shall bare the celestial when Jesus returns. This is a mystery that was not revealed until Christ ascended into heaven with the disciples gazing and the angels said ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing into heaven? This same Jesus shall return in like manner. This is the promise that we have whether we wake or we sleep.

  • #But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are sleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. I Thessalonian 4:13

The Greek word for ignorant is Agnoeo which means to not know. From Noieo;(through lack of intelligence); by implication, to ignore or not understand. Thus Paul uses this expression  thus to enlighten those who had lost loved ones, to comfort them so they would not sorrow as those who have no hope. Death is to be absent from the body and present with the Lord for the Christian. So this was very comforting and this passage is often used in funerals for that reason. Because Jesus lives we too will live beyond the grave for in heaven we have a body that awaits us until we get our glorified body in the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who are in the first resurrection and the second death will not have any hold on them.

  • #That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without and that ye may have lack of nothing. I Thessalonians 4:12

The Greek word for without is Exo which means outside, away, strange, from the Adverb Ek; out, literally or figuratively declaring that the person without is doing something absolutely, he who is without properly of place metaphorically in plural those who do not belong to the Christian church. Thus Paul wants the Thessalonians to speak the truth in love so that those outside of the church will not have a reason to blaspheme their Christian faith. By doing this that ye may have lack of nothing. For our God shall supply all our needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore we must guard our reputation for the sake of Christ and His Church.

  • #And that ye study to be quiet and to do your own business and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; I Thessalonians 4:11

What a great scripture for business leaders to motivate employees and stop malicious gossip. The Greek word for quiet is Hesychazo which means to be still and be silent. From the same as Hesuchios; to keep still (intransitively), i.e. Refrain from labor, meddlesomeness, or speech and cease, and hold peace, to be at rest. The aorist tense as in Greek writings from Aeschylus down, to cease labor. So Paul is telling the Thessalonians to stop the gossip, be about their own business, and work with their hands for they will receive the reward of the inheritance from the Lord Jesus Christ. Just the type of motivation we need to keep people out of other people's business and stop NDAs. How many brothers and sisters have had their reputations tarnished because of malicious gossip and how many church splits have taken place because so-called Christians did not behave like Christ? Jesus told us to work in His vineyard and to go into the highways and byways to compel them to come into the kingdom. When we do the Lord's business and not other people's business Christ is glorified in us. So I implore you by the Lord Jesus Christ to meditate on this scripture and practice it every day of your life.

  • #And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia, but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; I Thessalonians 4:10

The Greek word for Macedonia is Makedonia, a region of Greece, a country bounded on the south by Thessaly and Epirus, on the east by Thrace and the Aegean Sea, on the west by Illyria and on the north by Dardania and Moesia. So Paul is very familiar with this region and knows how easy it is to love the Macedonian people, thus he is begging them to increase in agape love toward all the brethren. Jesus told us to pray for our enemies and love those that hate us. We must love all people not just the ones we know but those we do not know. It is easy to love your friends, but Christ commended His love toward us in that while we were sinners He died for us. That is how agape love is cause it loves in spite of our mistakes and racial background. Christmas teaches us to give to others just as God has given to us. So from this day forward, let us mirror the Son of God; the greatest gift we can give to others is salvation. So tell someone about Jesus for He came to deliver us from our sins.

  • #But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. I Thessalonians 4:9

The Greek word for touching is Peri which means about, concerning, around ( denotes place, cause or subject) From the base of Peran; properly through, i.e. Around with respect to; used in various applications of place, cause or time. Thus Paul is sayings you brothers have been taught of God to love one another, therefore you do not need me to write about this unto you. A Pastor preached on love for seven straight Sundays and the congregation said when are you going to stop preaching on love? Then the Pastor responded when you start doing it. Such it is the Church is a hospital for sick people to learn how to love one another. Christmas teaches us that lesson as God demonstrated His love for us when He gave us the indescribable gift of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus commanded a new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have loved you. When your brother is ill pray for him; when he is hungry feed him; when he needs a job employ him. This is how we show love one for another.

  • #He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man but God, who hath also given unto us His Holy Spirit. I Thessalonians 4:8

Happy Three Kings Day! The Greek word for despiseth is Atheteo which means to do away with what has been laid down or set aside. From a compound of a (negative particle) and a derivative of Tithemi; to set aside, i.e. (by implication) to disesteem, neutralize or violate, disannul, frustrate, or bring to nought  by thwarting the efficacy of anything by making it void. Thus Almighty God will not allow this for you are not fighting against man but God. Therefore since He has given us the Holy Spirit we must see to it not to grieve the Spirit by disobeying the commands of the Lord. Thus keep your promises to God for He does not take pleasure in fools. It is a foolish thing to make an oath to God and fail to keep it. Let us pray for our country as the House of Representatives have refused to vote a Speaker in thus making us look like a third world Government. Jesus said a house divided against itself shall not stand. Let us be the United States of America and not the divided states that we are acting like.

  • #For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. I Thessalonians 4:7

The Greek word for uncleanness is Akatharsia from Akathartos which means impurity ( the quality), physically or morally in a moral sense the impurity of lustful profligate living. So Paul is telling the Thessalonians to live a holy life from the Greek word Hagios, For our God is a holy God and we receive imputed holiness by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. So do not walk as the Gentiles walk in lustful passions but get married and stop sleeping around. Be at peace with all men and follow holiness, for without holiness no man will see the Lord. Live by the Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see the Lord.

  • #That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forwarned you and testified. I Thessalonians 4:6

The Greek word for defraud is Pleonekteo which means to have more and to overreach. From Pleonektes; to be covetous (by implication) to get an advantage and make a gain of. As Plato, and Isocrates and others stated. The Greek word for avenger is Ekdikos which means exacting penalty from. Such as carrying justice out, i.e. A punisher. So Paul is warning to not take advantage of your brother or sister in any way by being covetous, for God is the avenger and He will carry out justice in due time. So stop the spouse poaching and salary demoting of minorities. Perhaps this inflation problem that the world is having is a warning of the justice of God to punish those who take advantage of the poor, elderly, and disabled. This is what the Lord has demanded of thee to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God. Micah 6:8

  • #Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: I Thessalonians 4:5

The Greek word for concupiscence is Epithymia which means a passionate longing or desire for. From Epithumeo; a longing (especially for what is forbidden) with a genitive of the subject of the thing by which the desire is excited. That is the lust that the Gentiles who did not know God had in their hearts and Paul wants the Thessalonians to repent of this behavior and receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit so that they will be pure at the coming of the Lord. Marriage that is pure where those desires are fulfilled in the marriage bed. It is therefore imperative that husbands love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her to be without spot or blemish. Therefore come together husbands and wives and keep the marriage bed holy not swapping partners or engaging in polyamourous  relations.
