A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

#Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss. I Thessalonians 5:26
The Greek word for a holy kiss is Philema comes from Phileo which means to love from Philos to be a friend, i.e. Have affection for (denoting personal attachment, as a matter of sentiment or feeling; while Agapao is wider, embracing especially the judgment and the deliberate assent of the will as a matter of principle, duty, and propriety: the two thus stand related very much as Ethelo and Boulomai, or as Thumos and Nous respectively; the former being chiefly of the heart and latter of the head) especially to kiss (as a mark of tenderness) so Paul is not telling the church to kiss one another out of passion, but agapao love and affection. My mother had a problem with the lady minister kissing the men ministers, as it was an appearance of passion. We must not give any appearance of evil so this is rarely done in the Church today.
#Brethren, pray for us. I Thessalonians 5:25
The Greek word for pray is Proseuchomai which means to supplicate, and worship; to pray to God earnestly. James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms. This is what Paul is teaching the Thessalonians to pray for them about everything. Our prayers are for all those people trapped in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. This was truly an apocalyptic one as more than twenty-one thousand lost their lives. So affliction is a good reason to pray for God to be near the broken-hearted and rejoice with those who rejoice in prayer. We do this by singing praises. How do we pray for people? We give thanksgiving and worship to God for His faithfulness. Then the peace of God that passes all understanding compasses our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. God answers our prayers in three ways: Yes, No, and Wait. We hate to wait but we must labor in prayer as the widow did to the wicked Judge who finally heard her and gave her the answers that she wanted. Surely how much more will our Heavenly Father hear us as we labor earnestly in prayer? Just like the birds do not reap or sow, yet our Heavenly Father feeds them and how much greater are we than they? So pray earnestly and God will answer and just wait until He moves in the fullness of times.
#Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it. I Thessalonians 5:24
The Greek word for faithful is Pistos an adjective for reliable from Peitho; objectively, trustworthy; subjectively trustful, and sure. A person who shows themselves accurately in the transaction of business; and the execution of commands or the discharge of official duties. So Paul wants the Thessalonians to know that God is very faithful and will see them through all these trials and calls them out of darkness into His marvelous light. Phil. 1:6 He is faithful to finish the work that He began in us until the end. I Tim. 1:15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Paul tells us that even the worse of sinners, as he was, has experienced the faithfulness of God. So we can be sure He is faithful to save us until the end.
#And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly and I pray God your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 5:23
The Greek word for peace is Eirene which stands for rest and quietness (literally or figuratively) by implication prosperity. The state of tranquility; exemption from the rage and havoc of war between individuals, i.e. harmony and concord. This is what happens to us when we have accepted Jesus in our hearts as Lord and Savoir. God sanctified us by the blood of Jesus and the prayer of Paul is that our soul, spirit and body will be blameless unto the coming of Jesus. Keep praying for Turkey and I thank God that Sarah Beth is safe.
#Abstain from all appearance of evil. I Thessalonians 5:22
The Greek word for abstain is Apechomai from the middle voice (reflexively) of Apecho; to hold oneself off, i.e. Refrain to hold back, or prevent and keep off Philemon 1:15 For perhaps he, therefore, departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him forever; So it is Paul. He uses the Greek word Apecho to teach the Thessalonians to hold themselves off from all appearances of evil. Just as Philemon forgave the slave Onesimus from running away and going to prison to meet the apostle Paul who converted him to Christ, he is now a brother in Christ by the providential will of God not a runaway slave forever. God works in mysterious ways and Sarah Beth was in prison for a crime she did not do, but because she had no money to hire a Public Defender she was convicted. Now a great earthquake hit Turkey. Thousands are dead, I do not know what happened to Sarah, but I know she is in the Lord's hands. Weeping may be for the night but joy comes in the morning. I shall wait until I hear the Savior's call come up hither.
#Prove all things: hold fast to that which is good. I Thessalonians 5:21
The Greek word for prove is Dokimos which means to test (literally or figuratively); by implication to approve or allow by examination. Paul is telling us as Christians we must examine all things and hold fast to that which is good. I am troubled by the Earthquake that hit Turkey and praying for my fiance in a Turkish prison. My hope is that she will be released soon by the grace of God. We must pray for those who dispitely use us and wait on the coming of the Lord to deliver us from this present cosmos.
#Despise not prophesyings. I Thessalonians 5:20
The Greek word for prophesying is Propheteia meaning prophecy from Prophetes; prediction (scripture or other) prophecy, i.e. discourse emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God, whether by reproving and admonishing the wicked, or comforting the afflicted, or revealing things hidden; especially by foretelling future events of utterances of the New Testament and the Old Testament prophets of the prediction of events relating to Christ's kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions pertaining thereto: Rev. 11:6 These have the power to shut heaven, that it rain, not in the days of their prophecy and have power over waters to turn them to blood and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. These gifts are given to prophets like Moses and Elijah. Many believe they will be the two witnesses used in Revelation that will preach the word in the tribulation for three and a half years then be killed, and resurrected in three days, then Raptured to heaven. So we must not despise these prophesies for God uses men who have been ordained by God to preach the word of God warning us to repent of our sins and turn to faith in Jesus Christ to be saved from hell fire and have our names written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
#Quench not the Spirit. I Thessalonians
The Greek word for quench is Sbennymi which means to extinguish. A prolonged form of an apparently primary verb; to extinguish (literally or figuratively)to go out like a fire in the fireplace. Metaphorically, i.e. to suppress, and stifle divine influence in the aorist tense according to Homer. So Paul is using this term to demonstrate that we must never stifle the Holy Spirit when He is working in our lives to make us holy through sanctification. Just like when you start a fire in the fireplace with the gas starter, you do not want to turn it off until the fire is fully engulfing the fireplace. So it is when the Spirit is working in our lives bringing sins to mention that we must flee such as sexual immorality, then we must obey and flee. This is the one sin in the Bible that we are told to run from just like Joseph did when he ran from Poterpher's wife. God makes us holy by teaching us how to deny the flesh those pleasures that are against the will of God. Now marriage is the only relationship between a man and a woman that God allows us to procreate and enjoy the pleasures of intimacy. So, therefore, seek to be holy in all your conversations so that others will see the Lord Jesus Christ in you.
#In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you, I Thessalonians 5:18
The Greek word for thanks is Eucharisteo from Eucharistos; to be grateful, i.e. (actively) to express gratitude; especially to say grace at mealtime according to Josephus, Plutarch, and others. Paul uses the phrase "give thanks" as a blessing for us in everything that happens. Even the bad things that happen to us, the Lord is able to cause them to work together for our good, and His glory. Let us say thanksgiving at meals and everything that happens to us. We do not always understand why things happen, but God has the master plan. Jesus told His disciples before He went to the Cross, you do not know what I am doing but afterward, you will. After the resurrection, His disciples understood why Jesus had to go to the Cross to die for us, that He was saving us from our sins. Jesus said that when we die, it is like being planted on the earth to one day be risen from the grave. Jesus is the firstfruits, then we will follow Him in the first resurrection. So this is why we give thanks when our loved ones die, for God has transitioned them to their heavenly home and to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. So that is why we must not sorrow like those with no hope. Just say Lord be merciful to me a sinner and receive my soul. With this phrase, you will be accepted into heaven after you die. So give thanks in everything and God will bless you to live forever with Him.
#Pray without ceasing. I Thessalonians 5:17
The Greek word for without ceasing is Adialeiptos which means incessantly from the adverb Adialeiptos; uninterruptedly, i.e. without omission (on an appropriate occasion) without intermission. assiduously. So this is what Paul is telling the Thessalonians to always pray without ceasing or intermission. Saying a prayer like " Lord Save me" as Peter did when he was sinking in the ocean and he took his eyes off Jesus. Let us pray for those who persecute us and despitefully use us. Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for the kingdom of God to come on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus taught us how to pray when he said " Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom and the power and glory forever Amen" This prayer we should pray every day for it is the model prayer for us. When the Holy Spirit tells us to pray for someone we must pray immediately for them. When we do this the peace of God that passes all understanding will compass our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
