A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

#For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. Acts 28:20
The Greek word for chain is Halysis which is of uncertain derivation; a fetter or manacle, bonds, i.e. not to be loosed, a chain, bond by which the body or any part of it ( the hands, feet) is bound: specifically used of a manacle or handcuff, the chain by which the hands are bound together. This can have a spiritual connotation where someone is bound to a habit or addiction such as alcoholism, pornography, etc. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to be set free from these addictions when we submit to Him. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit whereby we are sealed unto the day of our redemption. Paul is bound by body and not an addiction to the hope of all of Israel for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For if Christ has not risen from the dead, then is our preaching in vain, and we of all men are most miserable. Nevertheless, Christ is risen from the dead and has become the first fruit of them that believe. This is the blessed hope that every Christian has today and why we can look to the hills from which our hope comes, for our help comes from God who made the heavens and the earth.
#But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of. Acts 28:19
The Greek word for appeal is Epikaleo which means to call upon.; to entitle; by implication, to invoke (for aid, worship, testimony, decision, etc) in the aorist passive tense. Hebraistically to call upon Jehovah, i.e. to invoke the Lord Jesus Christ. Thus Paul was constrained to appeal to Caesar since Jesus told us to pay tribute to Caesar and put our trust in God, knowing that God rules in the affairs of men. Paul did this without accusing the nation of Israel of his suffering knowing that Jesus had warned him that he would suffer many things.
#Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go because there was no cause of death in me? Acts 28:18
The Greek word for examine is Anakrino which means to scrutinize, i.e. (by implication) investigate, interrogate, ask questions, discern, judge or search. Happy Veterans Day to all veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. For greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends. The Lord Jesus told us that we are His friends and that is why He died on the cross for our sins so that we could have eternal life. So Paul is held against his will even though he has done nothing worthy of death. So they investigated him for whether he was a true apostle. What an explicit to use on him after all the miracles God had wroth through him by saving them in the shipwreck and the viper attack. So all, of you soldiers out there know that we thank God for your service and for all those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
#And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together and when they have come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. 28:17
The Greek word for custom is Ethos (prescribed by habit or law) Meaning a usage or manner contextually, usage prescribed by law, institute, prescription, or rite. So and it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief for these reasons, of the Jews to discuss this injustice done unto him. For Paul had broken non of the customs of our fathers, yet he was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. This was the providential will of God so that he could be a witness of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the Romans.
#And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul suffered to dwell himself with a soldier that kept him. Acts 28:16
The Greek word for suffered is Epitrepo which means to entrust, to permit, i.e. Allow give leave (liberty, license) in the aorist tense with an infinitive added. This is what the Lord Jesus did under the suffering of Pontius Pilate. Paul had solidarity with the soldier for he understood the situation that the soldier was facing while keeping the prisoners. For they had been through a shipwreck and seen the hand of God move in a mighty way saving them from all harm. Truly God is compassionate with us when we are compassionate with others. This is why the God of all comfort tells us to comfort others with the same comfort we ourselves have received from Him.
#And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God and took courage. Acts 28:15
The Greek word for Appii is Appios which is the name of a city south of Rome. Of Latin origin; (in the genitive, i.e. Possessive case) of Appius, the name of a Roman Appii, which is the name of a town in Italy, situated 43 Roman miles from Rome on the Appian way. So thus they came to meet and stayed at three taverns in the Greek Tabernai which is a hut Treis Taberni, Three Taverns, a stopping place on the Appian Way, Huts of wooden-walled buildings; Tabernoe the name of an inn or halting-place on the Appian way between Pome and the market of Appius; it was ten Roman miles distant from the latter place and thirty-three from Rome. So when Paul saw, he thanked God for providing such a nice place and he took courage. So be strong in the Lord and take courage all ye that is in the path of another tropical storm in Florida for the Lord is with you and will take care of you. So go out and vote and be thankful.
#And from thence we fetched a compass and came to Rhegium and after one day the south wind blew and we came the next day to Puteoli: Acts 28:13
The Greek word for Rhegium is Rhegion which was the city in southern Italy of Latin origin, a town and cape at the extremity of the Bruttian peninsula, opposite Messana (Messina) in Sicily, because at that point Sicily was believed to have been rent away' from Italy. So after one day Paul and the gang headed south with the wind as it blew them and came the next day to Puteoli; The Greek word for Puteoli is Potioloi which is a city on the Bay of Naples, Of Latin origin; little wells, i.e. Mineral springs, a place in Italy. Puteoli was a city of Campania in Italy, situated on the Bay of Naples, now called Pozzuoli. So we can see the resemblance between Latin people to Italians today who were among the most prominent followers of the apostle Paul. Where we found brethren and were desired to tarry with them seven days and so we went toward Rome. This is where the saying comes all roads lead to Rome. This was the absolute will of God for the apostle Paul to take the gospel to Rome as the angel of the Lord had told Paul. We too must be about the Lord's business taking the gospel to the uttermost parts of the world using the Internet and Social Media.
#And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there for three days. Acts 28:12
The Greek word for Syracuse is Syrakousai which is a sizeable maritime city of Sicily and the capital of Sicily which had an excellent harbor and was surrounded by a wall of 180 stadia in length. This statement exceeds the truth, the actual circuit being about 14 English miles or 122 stadia. So this was an excellent place for them to tarry for three days. I praise God that he always leads us into triumph as the Holy Spirit guides us every step of the way. So as we wait for the coming of the Lord the scripture tells us though it tarries, wait for it. There will be wars and rumors of wars but see that you are not troubled for the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, these are the beginnings of sorrows. The coming of the Lord will be as a woman in labor as the pains intensify, ye know that work is near. So it is as we see all these signs we are to look up for our redemption draweth nigh. Therefore be ye also ready for when ye think not the Lord will return. It will be as it was in the days of Noah as they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage just before the flood came. Jesus is our Ark of safety and we must remain in Him as He has told us to be patient for His coming.
#So when this was done, others who had diseases on the island came to us and were healed: They also honored us with many honors, and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary. Acts 28:9,10
The Greek word for laded is Epitithemi which means to lay upon; to impose in a friendly or hostile sense. And Paul made full proof of his apostleship as he threw himself upon the people to heal all those who had diseases on the island. What a blessing this was to the people. And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Caster and Pollux. The Greek word is Dioskouroi which were the twin sons of Zeus (Caster and Pollux) From the alternative of Zeus and a form of the base of Korasion; sons of Jupiter, i.e. The twins Dioscuri Caster and Pollux. These names were given to the twin sons of Zeus and Leda, tutelary deiters of sailors; So we understand why they were so enamored by what God had done through Paul.
#And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in and prayed and laid his hands on him and healed him. Acts 28:8
The Greek word for Bloody flux is Dysenteria meaning a bowel. Today he would have been given a colonoscopy to check him for colon cancer. Praise the Lord that Paul being full of the Spirit prayed for the father of Publius who was sick of the fever and laid his hands on him and he was healed. This is the same blessing we have when the elders of the Church anoint the sick and the prayer of faith shall heal them. No doubt it is the faith of Publius that helped his father to be healed. My prayers are for Timothy Harkless whose father will be laid to rest that the Holy Spirit will comfort him. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
