A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 2 Peter 1:12

The Greek word for negligent is Ameleo meaning to be careless. Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation: which at first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him. Peter is warning Christians not to be careless about their salvation, whom the Lord Jesus warned in the parable of the sower who went to sow, as some seeds fell by the wayside, and the devil devoured the seeds. We shall not escape, if we neglect to allow the seeds to take root in our spirit and confirm in our inner man that we have been saved from our sins. Therefore, we must always put to remembrance these things, though ye know them, we must establish them in this present truth. For there will be some who will say, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and cast out demons? The Lord will say I never knew you, depart from Me ye that work lawlessness.

  • #A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

The Hebrew word for friend is Rea; meaning companion or fellow; an associate; From Raah this can be a Pastor. I went to a co-worker who was a true friend at work that passed away. The Pastor who did the eulogy used as a title "It is finished" That is what Jesus said on the cross when he paid our sin debt. Now we are forgiven. I thank God for I used this verse for my brother's funeral too. When we love the Lord Jesus Christ and die, we have passed from death to life. So it is sad to not see our loved ones anymore, but comforting to know that they are in the arms of Jesus never to die again. Thank God Jesus promised never to leave us or to forsake us but will be with us until the end of the age.

  • #For so an entrance shall have ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:11

The Greek word for abundantly is Plousios; meaning richly or copiously. 1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they are not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; These are the eternal riches that have been given to us so that we can have entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, let us not trust in uncertain riches. For they take on eagle wings and fly away. Let us be free to give, as we have freely received, for the Lord loves a cheerful giver. We know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, though He was rich, for our sakes, He became poor, so that we through His poverty could inherit eternal life with His death, burial, and resurrection.

  • #Wherefore the rather, brethren, give the diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 2 Peter 1:10

The Greek word for diligence is Spoudazo meaning to make haste. From Spoude; to use speed, i.e. to make an effort, be prompt or earnest in an endeavor or study. Titus 3:12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. Peter is telling us to make our election to the faith sure, by doing all these things you will never fall in your faith. Paul warned Titus to avoid foolish questions about genealogies as well as contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. We must make haste to do the will of God in our lives and live the Christian life peaceably with all men.

  • #But he that lacketh these things is blind and cannot see afar off and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:9

The Greek word for purged is Katharismos meaning a cleansing. From Katharizo; a washing off, i.e. (ceremonially) ablution, (morally) expiation Mark 1:44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, show thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. The Lord Jesus has just cleansed this man of his leprosy and told him to tell no man but to offer his gift to the priest as a sign of gratitude that the Lord has purged him of his leprosy. We when we fail to show gratitude to the Lord for saving us and loving our neighbor as ourselves, are spiritually blind and have forgotten that we were purged with the Blood of Jesus and washed morally from our guilt. Let us show our gratitude this Thanksgiving season for what the Lord has done for us by helping others who may not be as blessed. We can do this by sharing the love of the gospel so that they can be saved and washed from their sins as well.

  • #For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:8

The Greek word for barren is Argos meaning inactive or idle. Later, Aristotle wrote on the N.T., with the feminine, which among the early Greeks Epimenides alone is said to have used. 1 Timothy 5:13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house and not only idle but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. This is why we must have love in our hearts towards our brothers and sisters so we do not go house to house gossiping about them, showing our ignorance of the word of God. Peter was rebuked by the Lord Jesus after the resurrection on the beach asking him if he loved Me, three times. Peter replied with phileo and not Agape. When we have Agape love we are neither barren nor unfruitful, but abounding in the love of God. So show your love to the saints by helping the Elderly in some trials that they are going through. The scripture tells us to do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith.

  • #And to godliness brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness charity. 2 Peter 7

The Greek word for charity is Agape meaning love and goodwill. From Agapoa; love, i.e. Affection or benevolence; especially a love feast. Song of Solomon 5:8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love. This godliness leads to brotherly kindness, and to brotherly love. This is the same love that the Lord Jesus has for us, in that He laid down His life for us on the cross, and we must do the same for one another. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church, rending due benevolence from one to the other. Solomon had many wives and this one wife had so much love for him that she charged the women of Jerusalem to find her beloved, for to tell him I am sick of love. Love in marriage must have Agape, and Eros which is passionate love. God commands that each man have his own wife, and each wife to have her own husband.

  • #And to knowledge temperance and to temperance patience and to patience godliness. 2 Peter 1:6

The Greek word for temperance is Enkrateia meaning mastery and self-control; from Egkrates; (especially continence) Galatians 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Let us manifest this fruit of the Spirit, as there is no law against such. When we are walking in the Spirit we will have great self-control over our body. Today is Halloween and is my Birthday. I thank the Lord for giving me self-control over all the temptations of the flesh. This day is full of festivity and many get caught up in wearing costumes, but let us put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provisions for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. For we have the knowledge of the Word of God that tells us how we are to walk in this crooked generation.

  • # And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue and to virtue knowledge; 2 Peter 1:5

The Greek word for diligence is Spoude meaning haste. From Speudo; speed, i.e. ( by implication) despatch, eagerness, and earnestness in business. Mark 6:35 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king and asked saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist. We see here that diligence can be a good thing and a bad thing. We must make haste to add virtue to our faith, and virtue to our knowledge. In this context asking for the head of John the Baptist was not virtuous and it tells us that when we preach the truth, we will sometimes risk having our head severed from us on a platter. John the Baptist did not pull any punches and he told Herod it was not lawful for him to have his brother's wife. This caused Herodious to ask the King, after her daughter did a tempestuous dance before him, for the head of John the Baptist. Jesus told us not to fear them who can destroy the body, but to fear God who can destroy body and soul in the lake of fire. Thus we must add virtue to our faith, and virtue to our knowledge. For this will enable us to do the will of God, and receive the crown of life at the Bema Seat.

  • #Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4

The Greek word for nature is Physis from Phuo; growth (by germination or expansion), i.e. ( by implication) natural production, constitution, or usage. Romans 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest He also spare not thee. We have been given that divine nature by these great and precious promises, and as Gentiles have been ingrafted in the natural branches. Therefore, we must take heed lest He also spare not thee, for we have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. So let us not return to our former old man provoking most justly His wrath against us as the Jews did. For God is now baptizing Jews and Gentiles into the body of Christ by faith. So see to it that ye enter into the strait gate, for narrow is the road that leads to salvation, and few there be that ever find it. Broad is the road that leads to destruction and many there are on it. When we examine ourselves and make sure that we are walking by faith and not sight, we will enter in by these precious and exceeding promises.
