A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold is as pictures of silver.(Prov.25:11) It is so important to speak the right words to people at the right time to produce the right results. When you think of apples of gold in pictures of silver, then you are thinking of wealth and excellence. When we speak wisdom into the lives of others we are making them wealthy. Therefore we must seek God for He is the source of all wisdom and He will give us just the right words needed at the right time.

  • #Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. 2 Peter 1:15

The Greek word for decease is Exodos meaning a departure. From Ek and Hodos; an exit (figuratively) death. Hebrews 11:22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel and gave commandment concerning his bones. Likewise, Peter is reminding the Christians to have all these words about his departure to be with the Lord in remembrance. Just like Joseph by faith commanded the Israelites before his death, to take his bones to be buried in Israel. We walk by faith and not by sight and should be proactive with our last will to our heirs. As we are heirs of the Lord Jesus Christ and joint heirs in the Abrahamic covenant. So as Christians, we know that when we die, we are absent from the body and present with the Lord. Therefore, we should provide a revocable trust so our heirs can receive their inheritance without having to go through the arduous process of probate

  • #Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath showed me. 2 Peter 1:14

The Greek word for knowing is Oida meaning to be aware, or behold and consider. Acts 4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. Peter is telling us to be aware that he is about to die and depart from his Tabernacle, to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, who revealed this to him. Jesus told him that when he was old, they would take him where he did not want to go, and there Peter would be crucified upside down. Just as Peter was able to see and behold the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ and His resurrection, we too can rejoice in that as the Lord was resurrected, we too who have trusted in Jesus will be resurrected to be in our glorified bodies. This gives us joy, as Paul said to live is Christ and to die is gain. Therefore, while we are in this Tabernacle, we need to crucify that fleshly man and put on the new man-made after Jesus Christ. For I must do the works of Jesus who called us, while it is day, for when the night shall come, no man can work.

  • #Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 2 Peter 1:13

The Greek word for tabernacle is Skenoma meaning a tent. From Skenoo; an encampment, i.e. (figuratively) the Temple (as God's residence), the body (as a tenement for the soul) Acts 7:46 Who found favor before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen. Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David. Peter wants to enlighten the Christians to the fact that our bodies are a tent, that is why he uses tabernacle, as Moses used in the wilderness pointing to Christ. Therefore, we must realize that our permanent home is in heaven and now Jesus is baptizing Jews and Gentiles into the body of Christ the Church. Let us labor to enter in by faith looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and now is seated on the right hand of the Father in heaven interceding for us. This body is now the temple of the Holy Spirit, so let us not defile that temple through immorality of any kind putting on the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • #Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 2 Peter 1:12

The Greek word for negligent is Ameleo meaning to be careless. Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation: which at first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him. Peter is warning Christians not to be careless about their salvation, whom the Lord Jesus warned in the parable of the sower who went to sow, as some seeds fell by the wayside, and the devil devoured the seeds. We shall not escape, if we neglect to allow the seeds to take root in our spirit and confirm in our inner man that we have been saved from our sins. Therefore, we must always put to remembrance these things, though ye know them, we must establish them in this present truth. For there will be some who will say, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and cast out demons? The Lord will say I never knew you, depart from Me ye that work lawlessness.

  • #A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

The Hebrew word for friend is Rea; meaning companion or fellow; an associate; From Raah this can be a Pastor. I went to a co-worker who was a true friend at work that passed away. The Pastor who did the eulogy used as a title "It is finished" That is what Jesus said on the cross when he paid our sin debt. Now we are forgiven. I thank God for I used this verse for my brother's funeral too. When we love the Lord Jesus Christ and die, we have passed from death to life. So it is sad to not see our loved ones anymore, but comforting to know that they are in the arms of Jesus never to die again. Thank God Jesus promised never to leave us or to forsake us but will be with us until the end of the age.

  • #For so an entrance shall have ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:11

The Greek word for abundantly is Plousios; meaning richly or copiously. 1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they are not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; These are the eternal riches that have been given to us so that we can have entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, let us not trust in uncertain riches. For they take on eagle wings and fly away. Let us be free to give, as we have freely received, for the Lord loves a cheerful giver. We know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, though He was rich, for our sakes, He became poor, so that we through His poverty could inherit eternal life with His death, burial, and resurrection.

  • #Wherefore the rather, brethren, give the diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 2 Peter 1:10

The Greek word for diligence is Spoudazo meaning to make haste. From Spoude; to use speed, i.e. to make an effort, be prompt or earnest in an endeavor or study. Titus 3:12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. Peter is telling us to make our election to the faith sure, by doing all these things you will never fall in your faith. Paul warned Titus to avoid foolish questions about genealogies as well as contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. We must make haste to do the will of God in our lives and live the Christian life peaceably with all men.

  • #But he that lacketh these things is blind and cannot see afar off and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:9

The Greek word for purged is Katharismos meaning a cleansing. From Katharizo; a washing off, i.e. (ceremonially) ablution, (morally) expiation Mark 1:44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, show thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. The Lord Jesus has just cleansed this man of his leprosy and told him to tell no man but to offer his gift to the priest as a sign of gratitude that the Lord has purged him of his leprosy. We when we fail to show gratitude to the Lord for saving us and loving our neighbor as ourselves, are spiritually blind and have forgotten that we were purged with the Blood of Jesus and washed morally from our guilt. Let us show our gratitude this Thanksgiving season for what the Lord has done for us by helping others who may not be as blessed. We can do this by sharing the love of the gospel so that they can be saved and washed from their sins as well.

  • #For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:8

The Greek word for barren is Argos meaning inactive or idle. Later, Aristotle wrote on the N.T., with the feminine, which among the early Greeks Epimenides alone is said to have used. 1 Timothy 5:13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house and not only idle but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. This is why we must have love in our hearts towards our brothers and sisters so we do not go house to house gossiping about them, showing our ignorance of the word of God. Peter was rebuked by the Lord Jesus after the resurrection on the beach asking him if he loved Me, three times. Peter replied with phileo and not Agape. When we have Agape love we are neither barren nor unfruitful, but abounding in the love of God. So show your love to the saints by helping the Elderly in some trials that they are going through. The scripture tells us to do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith.

  • #And to godliness brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness charity. 2 Peter 7

The Greek word for charity is Agape meaning love and goodwill. From Agapoa; love, i.e. Affection or benevolence; especially a love feast. Song of Solomon 5:8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love. This godliness leads to brotherly kindness, and to brotherly love. This is the same love that the Lord Jesus has for us, in that He laid down His life for us on the cross, and we must do the same for one another. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church, rending due benevolence from one to the other. Solomon had many wives and this one wife had so much love for him that she charged the women of Jerusalem to find her beloved, for to tell him I am sick of love. Love in marriage must have Agape, and Eros which is passionate love. God commands that each man have his own wife, and each wife to have her own husband.
